Married at First Sight Chapter 1428

Chapter 1428
Mr. Newman looked at his niece and said, “Mr. Callum, my niece is unlike others. She can’t see. If you don’t take responsibility for her exposure, she may never get married.”
“Uncle!”
Camryn responded solemnly, “I won’t marry, and I don’t need Mr. Callum to take responsibility for me. I didn’t suffer any losses; I wasn’t taken advantage of that night, so there’s no reason for Mr. Callum to be accountable.”
Although Mr. Newman was not her biological father, he was still her elder and her stepfather.
His request to Callum made Camryn feel so humiliated that she wished she could disappear.
“Camryn, I promised your father that I would raise you and help you find a good husband. I regret that I didn’t protect you from losing your sight. If I fail to assist you in finding a suitable partner, I won’t be able to face your father when I die.”
Mr. Newman was actually trying to tarnish Camryn’s image in Callum’s eyes, hoping that Callum and the York family would look down on her.
If he knew that Old Mrs. York had chosen to make his niece her second granddaughter-in-law, it would have shocked him.
“Mr. Callum, look…”
Callum turned to Camryn and said, “Are you suggesting that if I don’t marry Ms. Camryn, she would remain single for the rest of her life? How could I let that happen? Ms. Newman…”
“Mr. Callum!”
Camryn interrupted Callum with a tense expression.
“Mr. Callum, I don’t need you to be responsible for me.” She turned to Mr. Newman and firmly stated, “Uncle, please stop pressuring Mr. Callum to marry me. I don’t need that! Marrying me off isn’t even your real goal. Why don’t you just tell Mr. Callum…”

“What do you want? Why are you using me as a bargaining chip?”

“Mr. Callum, what my uncle truly desires is for you to step in as a mediator so that your sister-in-law can compromise and assist my mother in securing a lighter sentence.”

Mr. Newman’s expression darkened.

Fine, it was good that Camryn had clarified his uncle’s true intentions. That was indeed the real motive.

Callum deliberately let out a hum. “So, it’s not that he genuinely wants me to marry you? Mr. Newman, to be honest, I would consider it. Camryn is beautiful and pleasing to the eye, so her blindness doesn’t matter to me. In fact, it makes it easier for me to tease and pick on her.”

Camryn maintained a calm expression.

Mr. Newman appeared thoughtful.

“Mr. Callum, my wife is Camryn’s mother. If you marry Camryn, my wife will be your mother-in-law. Are you really willing to stand by while your mother-in-law goes to jail?”

Since Camryn had revealed his true intentions, he shamelessly expressed what he was really thinking.

“Liberty is your sister-in-law’s sister, so you should advocate for your mother-in-law. We will all be relatives in the future and will frequently cross paths. Can you forgive your mother-in-law this one time? I assure you she won’t harm Liberty and Serenity again after her release.”

Callum picked up the teacup, took an elegant sip, then set it down and smiled. “Mr. Newman, don’t be so quick to assume that you are my in-laws. Your niece mentioned that I don’t have to marry her, so our families aren’t connected just yet.

“If you are facing difficulties in your business, I might be able to help for the sake of your niece. However, I will not assist you in this matter. It doesn’t matter whether your wife is my mother-in-law; she committed a crime and…

should be punished, and I will not intervene on her behalf.

“You should abandon that idea, Mr. Newman. Liberty and her sister will not agree to a settlement!”

After finishing his statement, Callum stood up and pulled Camryn to her feet as well. He addressed Mr. Newman, saying, “I won’t continue with this meal. You can approach me regarding taking responsibility for Ms. Newman, but don’t seek me out for anything else. I cannot assist you.”

He then led Camryn out of the room.

Mr. Newman was left sitting alone, his expression darkening and his face paling.
