Chapter 1409
Mrs. Lewis remained quiet on the other end of the line for a moment before asking, “Liberty is awake and out of danger now. When are you coming back? You must be exhausted from keeping watch all night at the hospital. Come home and rest.”
“Mom, I’m not tired. I can still hold on, so you don’t have to worry about me.”
Mrs. Lewis wanted to express her frustration to her son, but she refrained.
She chose not to say anything further and quietly hung up the phone.
After his mother ended the call, Duncan put his phone back in his pocket and returned to the ward. He stood outside the group, watching Liberty silently.
Although Liberty was no longer in immediate danger, she remained very weak. The doctor had restricted the number of family members allowed in the ward to avoid disturbing her rest, so everyone had to leave one by one after visiting her.
The last ones remaining in the hospital were Zachary, Serenity, and Duncan.
Liberty fell back asleep, her rest more peaceful this time.
She was alive, her son was safe, and the perpetrators had been caught. She felt completely at ease.
“Seren, now that Liberty is resting comfortably, you should take a break on that bed with Sonny for a while,” Zachary suggested, encouraging Serenity to settle down on the family bed nearby.
“You didn’t sleep well last night either. You have dark circles under your eyes,” he noted.
Serenity carried Sonny and sat at the edge of the bed, glancing at her sister. “I’m not sleepy. If you’re tired, you should rest.”
Zachary sighed in resignation. He turned to his good friend and patted Duncan’s shoulder before walking out of the ward with him.
“Duncan, you’ve been watching over Liberty all night. You should go home and rest. Don’t wear yourself out before Liberty fully recovers,” Zachary advised.
Duncan replied,
“I don’t want to leave either; I still feel uneasy. Perhaps I can only work without worries when Liberty can get out of bed and walk,” he said.
Zachary pursed his lips, unsure how to persuade him.
Suddenly, his phone rang.
It was Josh calling.
Zachary answered the call, and while no one could hear what Josh said, Zachary’s expression darkened. Duncan overheard him instructing Josh to find out who had secretly filmed him and to have the trending topic removed.
After the call, Zachary hung up.
“What’s wrong?” Duncan asked, concern evident in his voice.
Zachary glanced at the ward to ensure Serenity wouldn’t come out, then spoke quietly, “Josh informed me that Seren and I were secretly photographed by paparazzi during her hospital visit the day before yesterday. The paparazzi reported that Seren is infertile and that we went to the hospital for medical treatment, but we ended up arguing, and I left in anger.”
“This has become a trending topic in Wiltspoon’s entertainment news. Its ranking is rising, and it seems to be vying for first place.”
That day, Zachary had taken Serenity to the hospital for a checkup, believing she was pregnant. Unfortunately, the result was negative.
Afterward, Serenity suggested undergoing further medical examinations, concerned that their inability to conceive after six months of marriage might be due to underlying health issues.
Zachary refused her request.
Serenity tried to persuade him, but he walked out in anger shortly thereafter.
