“Go sleep in the guest room,” Scarlet said.
“I’ve got my own bedroom. Why would I sleep in the guest room?” William lowered his voice. He didn’t want to wake the
others and make a scene.
“Open the door,” he instructed.
Scarlet refused. “Sleep wherever you want. You’ve never been short on options anyway.”
“Alright. You win.” William sounded furions. “Scarlet, what sins did I commit in my last life to end up with you tormenting me in this one?”
After that, there was no movement outside the door.
After drying her hair and lying down, Scarlet heard knocking again. She assumed it was William. “Are you done yet?”
Ellen’s voice sounded from the other side of the door, “Scarlet, I brought you some things.”
Scarlet went to open the door.
Ellen had brought a whole bundle of items, from spare clothes to her everyday skincare and makeup, along with little. necessities like a phone charger.
“Mr. Cooper asked me to bring these to you,” she said.
Scarlet couldn’t help wondering if William had gone out earlier to get these things. After a brief pause, she accepted the bag. Thank you, Ellen.”
“Don’t mention it,” Ellen replied. “Get some rest. You’ve got work in the morning.”
Scarlet hummed in response.
”
After Ellen left, she locked the door again. She put everything away, lay down on the bed, and fell asleep in the gentle glow of the lamp.
After a while, she suddenly opened her eyes and got out of bed. She crouched to the ground and followed the circle of floor lights, as if hunting for a long–lost treasure..
Those floor lights were just like the ones at Wolke Bay, with no visible wires.
She wondered if the wiring had been hidden in advance and when it was installed. She had always been afraid of the dark and often had nightmares, so she needed a light on while sleeping.
In the small room downstairs, she could only use a table lamp. If it was too bright, it hurt her eyes. If it was too dim, some corners remained dark.
Compared to a table lamp, those floor lights lit up the whole room, bathing every corner in a gentle glow that made her feel calm.
William probably never had the habit of sleeping with a light on.
Scarlet hadn’t paid attention before and didn’t know when those floor lights had been installed. Anyway, they had definitely been there the first time she slept here after the wedding.
She didn’t understand anything about wiring, and even after studying it for a while, she still couldn’t figure it out.
Downstairs, the living room was quiet, and everyone else had gone to bed.
After delivering the things, Ellen carried a bowl from the kitchen and quietly opened a door.

Emily, who had been sleeping peacefully on the bed, rolled over and opened her eyes. “Is everyone asleep?” she asked.
“They are.” Ellen whispered.
She set up a small tray on the bed and brought over the pea and ham soup. “I saved a bowl for you. It has been simmering all this while ”
Emily, who had been weak at dinner, now sat up energetically and drank her steaming bowl of pea and ham soup. She remarked, “I can tell exactly what nonsense Scarlet is about to say the moment she opens her mouth. Good thing I was quick to respond.”
“You really scared everyone,” Ellen said. “Just now, Mr. Cooper and Scarlet seemed to have another argument.”
“About what?” Emily asked.
“I didn’t dare go over, so I don’t know what it was about this time,” Ellen replied.
“Do you even know why they want a divorce?” Emily asked further.
“I’m not sure. I just overheard someone saying that Mr. Cooper still had feelings for Ms. Jameson and went to Amriva to see her,” Ellen responded.
Emily looked unconvinced. “What could he possibly have with that Nicole? It was all stirred up by Justine back then. He never seemed serious when they were together. Nicole is dramatic, and she can’t compare to Scarlet.”
“Maybe it’s just gossip. We’ll never really understand the ins and outs of their little quarrels,” Ellen said.
“Not a single one of them gives me peace. If I’d come back a few days later, this house might have fallen apart.” Emily sighed and continued, “I’ve been praying on the mountain every day, wishing them well. How did these two end up making life so complicated?”
Ellen suggested, “Why don’t we ask Mr. Brooke or Mr. Thompson? They’re close to Mr. Cooper, so maybe they know something.”
Emily nodded. “That brat from the Thompson family should work. He’s kind of dumb, and he sticks to William like glue every single day. There’s no way he doesn’t know a thing or two.”
