End of the Contract,Start of His Obsession Chapter 74

Jeremy stood frozen, shock and panic rendering him speechless.

And it wasn’t just him. Even Rowan had no clue that a daughter–in–law of the Cooper family was among his staff.

With Clementine’s qualifications, she wouldn’t have stood a chance of getting into any top–tier hospital without his intervention.

It was true that the number of applicants for this year’s mid–level promotion was high, making the available slots especially tight. By all rights, Scarlet’s qualifications made her promotion a sure thing.

However, Jeremy had deliberately cut her out for personal reasons, and Rowan was well aware of that. He had simply chosen to turn a blind eye. What he hadn’t expected was that this quiet, unassuming young woman was anything but easy to mess with.

With the Cooper family behind her, why hadn’t she said anything sooner?

How had she managed to keep it hidden for three full years?

Rowan wasn’t foolish. Now that accusations of favoritism had been thrown directly in his face, he could tell that William’s words were aimed squarely at him.

His expression darkened, embarrassment written all over his face.

“Mr. Cooper, there must be some misunderstanding,” Rowan explained firmly.

“Our hospital follows a strict and well–regulated promotion process. There is absolutely no room for under–the–table dealings. Regardless of personal connections, character and merit come first. We would never let a capable doctor go unrecognized. Since there are objections to this year’s results, in the interest of fairness, all outcomes from this round of evaluations will be voided.”

Clementine panicked. “Uncle Rowan!”

One sharp look from Rowan stopped her cold, and she didn’t dare take another step.

“No sense at all,” he thought bitterly. “She couldn’t even handle a small matter without blowing it into this mess, and now she’s calling me ‘uncle‘ in front of everyone? Uncle? Please. Distant uncle at best!”

Rowan stated, “The hospital will conduct a new round of evaluations, and the entire process will be open and transparent to ensure fairness. I stake the reputation of this hospital on it, that no favoritism will be tolerated.”

Xyla clapped enthusiastically. “Well, since I’ve got time to spare, I’ll be the observer. Don’t let me catch anyone cheating.”

Calling for a fair evaluation was, to anyone with senses, just a move to sacrifice the pawn to save the king. They were stripping Clementine of her undeserved slot and returning it to Scarlet.

Clementine refused to accept it. Stomping her foot in frustration, she cried, “Uncle Rowan, how could you do this? You promised me ”

Rowan shot a look, and Jeremy immediately covered Clementine’s mouth, half–dragging her away.

Putting on a gentle expression, Rowan turned to Scarlet. “Dr. Benson, don’t worry. I’ll make sure justice is served in this matter.”

Justice? Wasn’t he the very source of the injustice?

Still, Scarlet replied politely, “Thank you, Dr. Parker.”

Rowan then turned to William. “Mr. Cooper, does this resolution meet your expectations?”

William responded with effortless grace, “It’s reassuring to know the hospital has a director as upright and impartial as you. With you in charge, I’m sure no one would dare abuse their authority and mistreat my wife again.”

The message was unmistakable. If anyone dared to target Scarlet again, Rowan would be the one held accountable.

“Rest assured. If anything like this happens again, Dr. Benson, come straight to me. I’ll make sure it’s handled,” Rowan said.

With the formalities concluded, he was eager to leave. “Mr. Cooper, I have a meeting to attend. Please allow me to excuse myself. Dr. Benson, why don’t you show Mr. Cooper around the hospital?”

The moment Rowan left, Scarlet pushed William away.

“Are you out of your mind?” she snapped.

“I just helped you get justice. Instead of thanking me, you’re yelling at me?” William muttered, “You’re turning against the person who helped you.”

“Thanks,” Scarlet replied flatly, without a trace of warmth. “But I didn’t need you to fight my battles for me.”
