Scarlet’s confidence completely crumbled. Honestly, she couldn’t figure out where she had gone wrong. “I did everything by the book.”
“Forget it.” Lucy patted her on the shoulder. “Maybe you’re born to marry rich and enjoy life. Do yourself a favor and stay out of the kitchen.”
Scarlet was rendered speechless.
“By the way, you had so many designer bags at your old place. Did you not take a single one over?” Lucy had gone through her closet earlier while looking for her phone.
Scarlet cracked open a crab, seemingly uninterested. “I never used them, and I don’t even have space for them here.”
“In that case, you can give them to me! I have plenty of space to keep them.” Lucy almost jumped to her feet. “I’ll lay them all out on my bed and sleep surrounded by bags.”
Lucy startled her so badly that Scarlet dropped the crab meat she had just peeled. After a moment’s hesitation, she picked it up from the table and fed it to Lucy. “William gave me the villa. So, you can take whatever catches your eye later.”
“I guess he’s not totally heartless after all,” Lucy said around a mouthful of crab. “Say, how much is that villa worth, anyway?
Scarlet wasn’t aware of the exact number, so she answered casually, “A few hundred million dollars, probably.”
Lucy slid right off her chair and dropped to one knee in front of her. After grasping Scarlet’s hand, she planted a reverent kiss on it. “My love, will you support me for the rest of my life?”
“No,” Scarlet responded coldly. “Unless you do the dishes.”
“You can count on me!” Lucy bounced off toward the kitchen.
Scarlet took a day off to move and returned to work on time the next morning. During the shift handover with the colleague on duty, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off.
