End of the Contract,Start of His Obsession Chapter 45

Chris faltered

Good question.

He used a different tactic. “Well, more importantly, everyone’s been working very hard these past few weeks, so they’re all starting to fall sick.

“You’re strong and healthy, but they’re all starting to lose hair from lack of sleep. They’re only around 30 years old, but they have the physical condition of 80–year–olds. If anything happens to them, we’re going to need to pay up.

Chris had picked up all his communication skills from William over the past few years. That was why he couldn’t compare

when it came to William

William chuckled coldly. “What’s wrong? Do you think I can’t afford it?“.

That wasn’t what Chris meant.

Helen wasn’t wrong, William had become harder and harder to deal with every single passing day after their return to Lebavia. Chris had been his assistant for years and was able to figure out some of William’s habits.

Chris silently chanted to himself, “For Bova Capital.”

Then, he finally spoke, awaiting his death sentence.

“Mr. Cooper, are you not going home because you’re scared?”

A loud shattering noise from William’s office made everyone freeze out of fear.

“Crap! Is Mr. Hemworth going to die in there? Oh, no…”

After a moment, the door opened, and Chris walked out.

Helen immediately asked worriedly, “Mr. Hemworth, are you okay?”

“I’m fine I just accidentally broke a teacup.”

Chris straightened his tie and let out a sigh before announcing, “Let all the other departments know that Mr. Cooper’s giving us three days off after all the hard work we’ve done these last few weeks.”

The whole company erupted into cheers. Everyone left before it was time to clock out, and when William finally came out of his office, there was no one left except for Chris.

“You’d think there was a fire with how quickly they escaped,” William said. Even the sight of Chris was enough to annoy him. “You, too. Get out of here.”

Lester had caught a bad cold the day before, so William drove himself back from work. As he drove on the snow–covered roads, he started feeling a strange sense of self–pity, as if he had no home to return to.

He ended up driving back to Wolke Bay anyway.

When he entered, the house was as warm as a spring day, but it was empty.

William faltered in his steps and called out, “Scarlet?”

He surprised himself with how cold and low his voice sounded. He could practically hear it echoing throughout the empty

house

He tossed his coat onto the couch and sped toward the bedroom on the second floor. His tense muscles only relaxed when he

saw that Scarlet’s clothes and belongings were still there.

When he went hack downstairs, he heard the sound of cats meowing

He went to the room where they kept their cats. He had opened the door barely a crack when their calico cat came running out along with all her kittens. They began scurrying around and sniffing William’s pant legs.

William wanted to use his foot to push them back into the room, but none of them stayed still long enough. They leaped over his foot and scurried outside.

The moment Ruth got back from grocery shopping, she spotted the cats running all over the living room. Two of them were even fighting on the couch.

Cat fur was flying all over the room. William was hiding far away from them in a corner while sneezing his nose off.

Ruth was shocked. “Oh my god! What are they all doing outside?”

William said, “The door wasn’t shut properly. They were like this when I got back.”

Ruth didn’t dare argue with him, but she couldn’t help wondering to herself. She had added child locks on the windows and the door. Had the calico cat evolved into being able to open locks? She could send that cat to talent shows at this rate.

She quickly tried to chase the cats back into the room, but despite their young age, the kittens were already starting to show signs of athletic prowess.

She only managed to catch two of them despite running all over the house. By the time she managed to catch the third, the other two had found a way to sneak back out of the room.

William stood atop the stairs. “Call Scarlet and ask her to come back and get them.”

Ruth turned back with a cat toy in her hand. “Mrs. Cooper’s out of town for a conference. She’ll only be back the day after

tomorrow.”

William stuck his hands into his pockets and said ambiguously, “She’s a busy woman, huh?”
