Married at First Sight Chapter 1399

Chapter 1399
Serenity tilted her head to look at Zachary and asked, “Did you discuss this a long time ago? Or were you already aware of the other party’s plot and intentionally used Sonny to lure them?”
“We didn’t!” Zachary quickly denied it.
“The Buchams only observed Mrs. Newman’s actions and noticed she was behaving unusually today. They informed me and Duncan, prompting us to increase our efforts to protect Liberty and Sonny,” Zachary explained. “If they had taken Sonny, we would have been able to rescue him. However, we underestimated Liberty’s determination as a mother. She ran so fast at that moment that our bodyguards couldn’t keep up.”
“Though they were only a few minutes behind, she was already harmed.”
Serenity glanced down at Sonny, who was not sleeping soundly. With tear-filled eyes, she said, “Sonny was born to my sister; he is her life. Even if she had known you had people secretly protecting her who could help her save Sonny, her instinct as a mother would still drive her to chase after the bad guys to get him back.”
Zachary expressed his regret, saying, “It was also due to our inadequate protection.”
Serenity wiped her tears with one hand. “Why didn’t you remind my sister that Jessica was being used?”
“She knew—she was the one who first suspected Jessica and called to inform me. She insisted on following Hank and Jessica today because of her suspicions and wouldn’t let Hank take Sonny away alone.”
Serenity asked, “Why didn’t she tell me?”
Zachary was at a loss for an answer. Although Liberty had her reasons for not sharing, he didn’t know what they were.
“Did Mr. Bucham have all the evidence?”
“The evidence is with Julian.”
“Why didn’t you call the police when you had all the evidence?” Serenity questioned.
Zachary

answered after a brief silence. “Mrs. Newman’s men were hidden, so capturing one would alert the others. After the last incident at the zoo, I advised you and Liberty to consider that an accident and continue living normally.”

“But Mrs. Newman will undoubtedly strike again. We just need to bide our time. When she goes off the rails, we can concentrate on apprehending her and her associates. Even if we can’t catch them all, we can capture most of them.”

Serenity gently touched her nephew’s face. “Ultimately, you were using Sonny.”

Zachary was at a loss for words.

“Now, I question whether it was right for me to save Camryn in the past.”

“Seren, this isn’t your fault; it’s theirs. If you had witnessed Ms. Newman being harmed back then and hadn’t intervened, you would have carried that guilt for the rest of your life.”

Serenity bit her lip and remained silent.

“Have those individuals been apprehended now?”

Zachary replied softly, “None of those who contributed to the chaos and hindered my men escaped. They were all captured—about a hundred people.”

Serenity looked at him again. “That deranged woman involved so many people?”

“Yes, she likely believed that there was strength in numbers and that they would succeed in taking Sonny.”

Serenity recalled Camryn’s words and echoed them, “Camryn mentioned that Mrs. Newman would resort to drastic measures if she became impatient. Carrie definitely learned that well from her.”

The mother and daughter acted on their whims without regard for the consequences.

“Mr. Newman might be uninvolved in this situation. He is 99% unaware of Mrs. Newman’s plans today. If he knew, we wouldn’t have allowed her to proceed. The evidence from Julian is largely unfavorable to Mrs. Newman.”

He remarked, “Perhaps Mr. Newman had been considering making Mrs. Newman the scapegoat for quite some time.”
Zachary responded, “That’s a possibility. That couple is certainly surprising.”
Suddenly, Serenity’s phone began to ring.
At the same moment, Zachary’s phone also rang.
The couple answered their calls simultaneously.
