Once again, Mrs. Brown turned and walked over to her husband to leave with him. Hank was reluctant to go but was pulled away by his parents, so he left with them.
After the Browns departed, Serenity asked Zachary, “Did Jessica do this?”
“She was merely a pawn. The police have likely gone to the mastermind’s house to take her in for questioning. Josh has submitted all the evidence and information about the individuals involved to the police.”
Initially, Josh only allowed Zachary to take a brief look at the evidence and did not permit him to keep it. He intended to hand it over to the police, but he was also concerned for their safety.
According to Josh, those individuals were skilled at counter-investigation. Although Zachary held a formidable status in Wiltspoon, those people were not intimidated by him.
If Zachary had evidence that could dismantle them, there was no guarantee he would survive to see the next day.
In contrast, the Buchams operated differently.
While they maintained a low profile, their connections were impressive. No one dared to act recklessly against the Buchams, knowing that numerous powerful families might retaliate. Furthermore, the Buchams were recognized for their information-gathering capabilities and had a strong intelligence network. It was uncertain whether those pieces of evidence were in Josh’s possession.
“Seren, I’ll explain more later. You should go home and rest first.”
With many people coming and going, it wasn’t the right moment to discuss details.
“I’m not going home; I’m going to wait here for my sister to wake up.”
Even though Liberty didn’t require family care, Serenity was determined to stay.
“Seren, Liberty is currently in the ICU and doesn’t need our attention, so let’s go home for now. You need to get some rest to properly care for Sonny. Plus, you’ll need to look after your sister when she wakes up.”
Zachary wanted to convince his wife to go home and get some rest.
“I don’t want to go home; I want to stay here and watch over my sister. For all we know, she might wake up at night, and when she does, she’ll want to see Sonny first.”
Serenity was resolute in her decision not to leave.
“Seren, Zachary is correct. Your sister doesn’t need our attention right now. You and Zachary should go home and rest. I’ll stay here to keep watch.”
