“Sir, ma’am, Mr. Zachary has returned.”
“What is he doing here?”
Liam asked skeptically, “Did Serenity come back with him?”
“Only two cars returned. Mr. Zachary drove one, and the other was the security vehicle. It seems the missus isn’t in the car.”
“Oh.” Liam then instructed the maid, “Please tell the kitchen to prepare extra servings. Zachary should at least stay for dinner.”
The maid wanted to laugh.
This was Mr. Zachary’s home.
It was perfectly normal for him to dine at his own place.
Yet, Liam acted as if Mr. Zachary was a guest trying to mooch a meal.
The maid decided to give the couple some privacy.
Liam turned to his beloved wife. “Have you figured out a way to checkmate? I’m leaving if you’re stuck.”
“Just let me think it over. Don’t distract me. I’ll come up with a solution. What did Eunice say? Is Zack back? Oh, does he have time to come home?”
“Who knows? He rarely returns to the manor now that he has a wife. He usually just drops by for a quick chat. It’s almost like the manor isn’t his home anymore.”
Tania defended her son. “Zack said you’re his role model. He takes after you; he’s a chip off the old block. You boys are so alike.”
Zachary’s temper resembled that of his late grandfather. While Zachary displayed many traits of his father, Liam was not much different from Zachary in his younger days.
Now, however, Liam was older and retired, making him more approachable since most of his time was spent with his wife.
As the couple chatted, Zachary walked into the yard.
The bodyguards did not accompany him.
Noticing his parents were playing chess, Zachary approached and stood beside his mother, observing the chessboard attentively.
“Where’s Seren?” he asked, lifting her chin.
Tania glanced at her son and asked, “What’s the matter?”
