her, only to discover that she was holding a cat. He furrowed his brows and sharply turned, striding away from the window.
“Babe,” he said.
Serenity followed closely behind him. “You were still sleeping when I got up. I thought it best to let you rest since you’re always busy with work. That’s why I didn’t wake you. I didn’t go anywhere; I just helped my sister.”
“I thought you might wake up by now, so I hurried home. It’s still hectic at my sister’s diner, and I didn’t want you to wake up alone. I rushed back.”
As she explained, Serenity didn’t pause in her steps.
Zachary stopped, turned, and locked eyes with her. “Do you love me, Serenity?” he asked.
It had been a while since he had addressed her by her full name; he usually called her “Seren.”
Serenity sighed internally. ‘Please don’t tell me he’s upset about this.’
Nonetheless, she didn’t hesitate in her response. “I do. I love you, Zachary. I love you.”
Her quick reply softened the tense lines of his face, but he maintained a serious expression as he said in a pained voice, “Do you really love me? Why can’t you remember that I hate furry animals if you love me? You even brought it into my room.”
Serenity was left speechless.
She lowered her gaze and exclaimed, “Oh!”
Embarrassed, she added, “I’m sorry, Zachary. I forgot I had the cat in my arms. I’ll take it out right away. Don’t worry; I’ve been holding it this whole time, so the fur is only on me. I promise there won’t be any fur in your room.”
She quickly carried the ragdoll cat out of the room.
Despite the cat’s beauty and cuteness, Zachary couldn’t bring himself to warm up to the furry creature. He even questioned…
Her love was put into question because she brought the cat into the bedroom.
Sigh.
After taking the ragdoll out, Serenity placed the cat on the ground, stood up, and said to Mrs. Lane, “Why didn’t you warn me that I was still holding the cat, Mrs. Lane? Your boss can be so uptight. He’s already having a fit, and now he’s doubting whether my love for him is genuine just because I brought the cat in.”
