“It’s almost time for lunch. I assume your kitchen isn’t ready yet. Would you like to join us?”

Remy felt at home in the Stones’ residence, having dined there several times before. He replied, “My kitchen is still under renovation, so I don’t have any cooking facilities available. The hotel will be quite busy with diners at this hour, and I doubt I can secure a private dining room for myself. I would love to join you for lunch.”

Elisa welcomed him into the house with a smile.

As for Zachary and his wife, Elisa didn’t need to attend to them.

Standing beside Zachary, Serenity watched Elisa and Remy walk away before saying to her husband, “They look good together.”

Zachary was focused solely on Serenity. After her comment, he glanced briefly at the pair and responded, “They do.”

“It’s clear that Mr. Johnson has feelings for Elisa, but he’s not being honest with her about it. Zachary—uh, I mean, Babe, could you try to gauge Mr. Johnson’s interest?”

Serenity was eager for Elisa to start dating again.

Serenity might not fully believe him, but his affectionate words made her feel cherished.

When she wasn’t around, he devoted himself entirely to his job, pushing his employees to their limits.

“Is Clive still being a jerk?” Zachary asked with a frown.

“We managed to get through to him. At least he stopped insisting on Alice having an abortion. Aunt Audrey and my sister explained that the procedure would only harm Alice. He didn’t want that for her, so he dropped the subject. I heard from Elisa that he had been pressing her for days.”

“Aunt Audrey was really put off by his attitude. Pregnancy is tough enough as it is. Men should appreciate and love their wives who are willing to bear their children.”

Pregnancy was no easy feat for women, and childbirth could even be life-threatening. Women were essentially risking their lives to bring new life into the world.
