Chapter 1237
Lily continued speaking. “You mentioned this before. Serenity and Liberty are sisters. Serenity lost her parents when she was ten, and her sister raised her. Liberty taught her everything she knows. Serenity’s character reflects that of Liberty.”
“I believe Liberty isn’t that type of woman. She may become my rival in love, but it won’t be intentional. The real issue is Duncan.”
Lily was not a sheltered princess; she held a high position at Harmon Corporation and had traveled extensively. Her worldview was likely broader than Mrs. Lewis’s.
“Now that I know about this, it serves as a warning to keep me vigilant.”
Lily pondered her thoughts. She needed to secure Duncan’s affection before any sparks ignited between him and Liberty. That way, Duncan would be hers.
If…
She were to lose to Liberty…
Lily halted her thoughts from drifting further. She refused to entertain the idea of losing.
She was superior to Liberty in every way. Duncan would be foolish to choose a divorcee like Liberty over her.
Meanwhile, Liberty, back in her hometown with her sister to re-sign a contract with the Hunts, couldn’t stop sneezing.
Serenity and her sister often visited Dr. Sullivan during their childhood.
“I don’t have cold symptoms, so I doubt that’s the issue.” Rubbing her ear, Liberty asked her sister, “Do you think my ear looks red, Seren? It feels like it’s burning. Maybe someone is saying something bad about me.”
Serenity examined one side of her sister’s ears and noticed that it did appear red.
She remarked, “The customers must be saying something since you aren’t open for business today.”
The only person who would speak negatively about Liberty was Jessica; no one else did.
The Browns likely wouldn’t criticize the sisters any longer.
Touching her reddened ear, Liberty decided to move past the issue.
Following up on their previous discussion, the sisters signed a new agreement with Old Mr. and Mrs. Hunt.
The dimensions of the house and the vacant land left by Serenity’s parents were measured. Since half of the land belonged to their mother, Lisa, the sisters invited their maternal grandparents over.
The Howdens were aware that Serenity and Liberty had returned to claim the property. They knew Serenity had married well and reconnected with their aunt, who was also married into a wealthy and powerful family.
The Howdens were concerned that Serenity might seek retribution against them for taking four hundred thousand dollars from the insurance payout years ago.
Fortunately, Serenity did not pursue any such actions.
Regardless, the Howdens had raised Lisa.
Even after discovering that Serenity had married into wealth, the Howdens remained calm and did not attempt to exploit the situation like the Hunts. Their only hope was that Serenity and Liberty would not harbor resentment towards them.
That is why Serenity’s maternal grandparents willingly signed over Lisa’s share of the inheritance to the sisters when Serenity sent someone to collect them.
As a result, Old Mr. and Mrs. Hunt held equal shares of the property alongside Serenity and Liberty.
While the elderly couple had control over several hundred square feet, it was important to consider the differing values between the vacant land and the developed property.
Serenity calculated the figures, ensuring she did not take advantage of Old Mr. and Mrs. Hunt’s rights or compromise her own and her
sister’s own.
This time, there were many witnesses present during the signing of the agreement.
Old Mr. Hunt must have spoken to his wife, as Old Mrs. Hunt was noticeably more pleasant toward Serenity and Liberty now. Unlike last time, she did not create a scene; instead, she was cooperative in signing the contract.
