It’s unfortunate that Zachary and she were not meant to be.
“If Mrs. York truly didn’t care for her daughter-in-law, she wouldn’t take personal action to dispel the rumors. While she may not be entirely pleased with Serenity as her daughter-in-law, it’s evident that she still protects her,” said Darrell.
Audrey felt a mix of admiration and regret. She would find peace if her daughter could marry into the York family, but sadly, Zachary did not have feelings for Elisa.
Darrell continued, “Of course our daughter has good taste, but let’s not discuss her and Zachary anymore. Zachary is now your nephew-in-law, and it’s not appropriate to keep mentioning him as Elisa’s past love.”
“I only bring it up in front of you. I won’t mention it in front of Zachary,” Audrey replied.
Audrey understood it was inappropriate; she just couldn’t help but sigh at how Tania defended Serenity. As an aunt, she was glad that the York family treated Serenity well. Thankfully, a man like Zachary hadn’t been swayed by someone outside the family but had instead ended up with her niece.
“I wonder how Elisa’s marriage will turn out,” she mused.
Darrell reassured her, “Our daughter is a wonderful girl. She will surely find an excellent man who loves her wholeheartedly. Zachary isn’t the only good man out there. No matter how remarkable he is, Elisa and he wouldn’t have a happy ending if he doesn’t love her. Even without Serenity, forcing a connection between people who aren’t meant to be is pointless.”
“Let’s focus more on Anthony’s marriage; he’s older than Elisa,” he added.
Audrey groaned at the mention of her second son. He was hardly ever home, leaving her little opportunity to nag him. Whenever she called, he would always insist he was busy and hang up before she could say much.
She was furious with him. “I now understand why Old Mrs. York is so desperately seeking partners for her grandsons, even at her age.” Darrell was left speechless. One of their sons still did not have a partner.
