Using the serving utensils, Duncan filled Sonny’s plate and said, “Sonny, you seemed frightened today. Eat more to help you recover from the shock.”
“I wasn’t frightened,” Sonny responded seriously.
“Of course not. You’re a little man, Sonny. You’re brave and unafraid of anything.”
Duncan’s praise made Sonny lift his head and puff out his chest. His uncle had also called him a little man.
“Liberty, I think you should send Sonny to learn some form of self-defense.”
“Zachary suggested that too. He said he’d hire a trainer for Sonny to teach him some punches and kicks.”
Liberty was the one who responded.
Duncan hummed in acknowledgment.
Zachary had beaten him to it.
After all, Zachary was Sonny’s uncle.
After the meal, when Duncan’s phone rang again, he answered.
“Mom.”
“Mr. Lewis, you’re not avoiding my calls on purpose, are you? I’ve called a dozen times, and you only answer now!”
Mrs. Lewis was furious.
Instead of calling her son by his name, she simply referred to him by his last name.
“Mom, I put my phone on silent during the meeting this afternoon and forgot to unmute it, so I didn’t hear it ring. I just took my phone out and saw your calls, which confused me since I didn’t hear it ring for incoming calls.”
Everyone present turned to look at Duncan.
Who would have guessed he was such a skilled liar?
He didn’t blush or stutter at all.
It was as if he truly believed what he was saying.
Since Mrs. Lewis wasn’t there, she could only trust her son’s word.

Chapter 1182
Duncan sat alone on the sofa, inquiring about the recent events.
“It seems their objective was to abduct Sonny,” he remarked.
Duncan’s intuition aligned with that of Serenity and Zachary.
“Liberty, do you recall what they looked like? If you can provide sketches of them, I can arrange for someone to locate them.”
Although Duncan was no longer involved in the underworld, his reputation still lingered. If he required assistance from those individuals, they would go to great lengths to support him, just as they had in the past.
“They were wearing black masks and sunglasses, so I couldn’t see their faces. All I can say is that they were tall and strong. They resemble bodyguards more than typical thugs,” Liberty replied.
Having seen Zachary’s numerous bodyguards, Liberty was accustomed to their imposing stature, which made her feel that the assailants resembled bodyguards more than ordinary criminals.
Duncan’s expression darkened, and without commenting on Liberty’s description, he asked for more details. Before long, it was time to eat.
At that moment, his mother called again.
Duncan glanced at the caller ID but chose not to answer, calmly continuing his meal with the others.
“Duncan, who’s calling you? You’re not picking up,” Grandma May asked.
Duncan continued to fill his plate with food, complimenting Serenity’s cooking as he ate. “Zachary is fortunate to enjoy such delicious meals,” he remarked with envy.
“You’re feeling jealous, aren’t you? Find a wife who cooks well too, and you’ll be equally blessed with good food,” Grandma May teased. “You should answer the phone; the caller has tried several times. Even if you don’t want to respond, that ringtone is too loud and jarring for me. I’m too old for such noise.”
“Grandma May, I’ll take the call after I finish eating,” he replied.
Duncan remained composed and continued his meal, occasionally refilling his plate.
