Chapter 1154
According to Mrs. Brown, if she returned to her old home, her son would no longer belong to her. Instead, he would fall completely under Jessica’s control.
Additionally, Hank and Jessica had not yet held their wedding. Jessica insisted on waiting until their house renovation was completed, believing she would look more presentable that way.
Currently, they were living in a rented house, and Jessica’s family would have nowhere to stay if the wedding were to occur before the renovations were finished.
If Mr. and Mrs. Brown could look after Sonny, they would not feel as bored as they did now and could develop a stronger bond with him.
After all, Sonny was the Brown family’s only hope for continuing their lineage. Jessica had not become pregnant, and they were uncertain about her fertility.
Liberty, who was a vegetarian, quickly finished her meal. Noticing her former in-laws whispering to one another, she walked over and took the four bags of fruit that her sister and brother-in-law had brought into the kitchen.
A few minutes later, she returned with a plate filled with just one kind of fruit, leaving the others unprepared.
There were also snacks that Serenity and Elisa had bought for Sonny, which Liberty took and added to the fruit platter. She set everything on the coffee table for her former in-laws.
“Liberty, your store must be thriving, right?” Mrs. Brown asked as she enjoyed the fruit.
“It’s doing well,” Liberty replied.
“You’re usually too busy to care for Sonny. Why not let us take him back to our place? We’re his grandparents. Are you worried we’ll mistreat him? Older folks like us can certainly take good care of a child. Don’t worry about a thing.” Liberty responded calmly, “I previously spoke to Hank about this. If Sonny agrees, you can take him for a short visit. If he’s—”
You cannot force him if he is unwilling.
“Since my divorce from Sonny’s father, I have never prevented any of you from visiting him,” Liberty stated.
“Isn’t it enough to maintain things as they are?”
When Liberty first divorced, she contemplated severing all ties with her in-laws. However, her ex-mother-in-law managed to track her down and discovered her current address. She did not anticipate that her former in-laws would feel regret and continue searching for her almost daily.
“Sonny just said he doesn’t want to go,” Liberty replied, expressing her reluctance for her son to live with the Brown family. Jessica, the stepmother, was intimidating, and Liberty feared for Sonny’s well-being.
“You can convince Sonny. He’ll agree if you talk to him,” her ex-mother-in-law suggested. Liberty looked at her coldly, stating, “I respect Sonny’s decision.”
Mrs. Brown was left speechless. Ultimately, Liberty did not want them to take Sonny away.
After a while, Mrs. Brown remarked, “Liberty, Sonny’s last name is Brown. He is the grandson of the Brown family. Taking him back with us is simply the right thing to do.”
“I’m not stopping you, but I want you to consult Sonny first. If he agrees, you can take him. If he doesn’t want to go, I’m fine with you visiting him daily.”
“Stop emphasizing that Sonny’s last name is Brown. I could change it to Hunt at any time,” Liberty countered. It was becoming increasingly common for children to take their mother’s last name.
“No! Aren’t we discussing this, Liberty? You can’t secretly change Sonny’s last name, okay?”
Mr. and Mrs. Brown were anxious; they feared Liberty might alter Sonny’s last name. Although he would still be their grandson even if his surname were Hunt, they were concerned about the implications.
They still believed that their grandson would be a part of the Hunt family, even if his last name were Brown.
