Chapter 1126
“Sonny went with his uncle.”
“Mr. York? Isn’t Sonny asleep?”
Liberty replied softly, “He’s asleep. Zachary took him away while he was still sleeping. If you’d like, you can pick him up at York Corporation.”
Hank was at a loss for words.
“If Sonny doesn’t want to stay with you for a few days, you can visit him at Seren’s bookshop. I’m too busy to look after him, but he’ll be spending a lot of time there.”
Hank furrowed his brows and remained silent.
Given the choice, Sonny would prefer to be with his aunt rather than his father.
Hank had once told his son he would take him to the zoo. The little boy was excited, yet he still left with his aunt the next day, willingly forgoing the zoo trip.
He understood his position.
Hank hadn’t been a good father. Although his son called him “dad,” they weren’t very close.
He returned to his seat at the table. Jessica asked, “You look upset. What happened? Did you have another argument with her? Is Sonny around?”
“Zachary took Sonny away. She said we can’t force him to stay with us if he doesn’t want to. I already know Sonny won’t want to be with us. My parents have never cared for him, and I’ve been too busy with work to spend much time with him. I doubt he’ll want to live with us for a while.”
After a brief silence, Hank added, “We can visit him whenever we miss the boy.”
Though she was panicking inside, Jessica maintained her composure and spoke supportively, “It takes time to bond, even between fathers and sons. You should visit him often when you can. Take him out, treat him to nice meals, and have fun at the playground. He’ll learn to trust you as his father and will be more willing to stay with you.”
Hank replied, “Yeah, there’s no rush. We can take our time.”
“Why don’t you inform Liberty that we’ll take Sonny to the zoo this weekend?”
“Sounds great. Sonny was overjoyed when I told him I would take him to the zoo.”
Hank was unaware of Jessica’s true intentions. He believed that Jessica wanted to bond with Sonny and eventually have a child of her own. He wholeheartedly accepted Jessica’s suggestion.
Zachary carried the little boy into the office, drawing surprised looks from the employees of York Corporation.
When did their CEO have a son?
Had he really been married for only six months?
How could a six-month-old marriage produce a two- or three-year-old toddler?
Zachary had always had a special bond with his nephew. Without the assistance of his bodyguards, he carried Sonny from the car into the office building. Everyone was astonished by the love and care he showed for Sonny.
No one found it odd that their CEO was affectionate toward his wife, as the York brothers were famously devoted husbands.
They assumed their typically reserved CEO wouldn’t have the patience to care for a child. It never crossed anyone’s mind that he could excel as a stay-at-home dad.
As Zachary stepped into the elevator with Sonny, the two receptionists began to whisper to each other.
“Is that the boss’s illegitimate child?”
The first receptionist glanced at her colleague and replied, “Don’t you know his wife has a sister?”
“I do. The boss’s wife lost her parents early in life and has lived with her sister for over a decade—everyone knows that. Oh, I see. The child is the nephew of the boss’s wife. I heard her sister divorced and has custody of the child, who is about two to three years old.”
