the chauffeur quickly rerouted upon arriving at the street. Liberty had advertised a job opening yesterday, leading to numerous inquiries about the position since the previous afternoon. Although she initially planned to hire just one person, Liberty ultimately chose two middle-aged women who seemed honest and skilled with their hands. They were the dependable type, committed to their work as they had families to support. The two waitresses were set to start their shifts today.
When Zachary arrived at the breakfast diner, the morning rush had passed, yet the diner was still bustling with customers. Many laborers, having just finished their night shifts, flocked to the new breakfast spot to enjoy the fresh and delicious offerings. Liberty and the two waitresses barely found a moment to take a break. Meanwhile, Sonny sat slumped against the chair at the cash register, fast asleep. It was challenging for children to stay awake in the early morning hours after waking up so early.
With no time to care for her son, Liberty simply draped a jacket over Sonny. When Zachary entered, he felt a pang of sympathy for his nephew. Approaching him, Zachary gently lifted Sonny from the chair and informed his sister-in-law, “I’m taking Sonny with me, Liberty.” Liberty paused her work and approached Zachary with a concerned expression. “Is that convenient for you? He can rest here if you’re busy. I accidentally woke him up while getting ready this morning, and he stayed awake with me for several hours. He’s exhausted.”
“Where’s Seren?” Zachary asked.
“She’s still asleep. It’s fine. I’ll take Sonny to the office. He can nap in my private resting room. Sonny is well-behaved and won’t be a bother.” Even if Sonny were awake, Zachary’s spacious office would provide enough room for him to play. Having been in a similar situation before, Liberty understood Zachary’s intentions.
She heard that her sister was still asleep. Although she wanted to remind the couple to exercise some restraint, it wasn’t her place to reprimand Zachary. Liberty smiled and said, “Alright then. Thank you.”
“Don’t mention it. I’m quite fond of Sonny,” Zachary replied.
“Sonny takes long naps, so he’ll probably wake up in the afternoon. Call me when he does, and I’ll come to pick him up,” Liberty added.
Even if Zachary took her son away, Sonny wouldn’t be much of a bother since he would be asleep for a while. Therefore, Liberty felt comfortable leaving Sonny in Zachary’s care.
Just as Zachary took Sonny away, Hank entered the breakfast diner with Jessica.
