No one ever revealed the truth behind York Corporation’s attack on Lowe Enterprise, yet the two major companies had resumed their partnership.
Outsiders speculated that someone at Lowe Enterprise must have made a mistake, prompting York Corporation to sever ties. Mr. Lowe had persistently approached Mr. York for negotiations until they finally restored their business relationship.
“But I can’t tolerate the arrogance of that country bumpkin! She has no right to give me attitude. She’ll be nothing once Mr. York loses interest in her.”
Carrie pursed her lips and declared, “I can’t move on without getting even with her. Mom, I’ve hired eight thugs to go after her. They’re stalking Serenity and waiting for a moment when they can ambush her car and beat her up.”
Mrs. Newman’s face drained of color as she nervously responded, “Where did you find these people? Do you have everything arranged? Make sure there are no traces that could lead back to you. I also heard that the country bumpkin has learned self-defense and can kickbox. Ensure they don’t mess this up.”
Carrie replied casually, “I took kickboxing classes too. What’s the point? I can’t even take down our bodyguard. It’s just for show.”
Mr. Newman commented, “That’s true… The Hunt girl might have picked up some self-defense skills, but I’ve never heard how proficient she is. You should call and check on the progress.”
Once again, Serenity found herself stopped in the middle of the street at night.
She initially thought it was Noah, that bastard, again.
Upon closer inspection, Serenity realized Noah was nowhere to be found. That bastard should have lost his nerve by now after she confronted him twice.
Serenity didn’t dwell on the situation, nor did she have time to reflect.
The individuals who had forced her to stop in the middle of the road began attacking her car.
Serenity was confronted with metal rods before she even stepped out of the car. As she exited, two men swung their rods at her. Instead of dodging the blows, she calmly faced the attack, grabbing one of the incoming rods and delivering a kick to the man’s stomach. As he groaned in pain, she took control of the metal rod.
Turning around, Serenity extended her arm to block the second rod that was approaching. She realized she might not stand a chance against these thugs without a weapon, but now that she was armed, her mind felt more composed.
Gripping the metal rod, she disarmed the other three men. The bodyguards secretly assigned by Zachary to protect her sprang into action. Serenity kept hold of the metal rod while watching her two bodyguards overpower the thugs.
Once the attackers were writhing on the ground in pain, one bodyguard called the police, while the other phoned Zachary. Serenity removed the masks from the thugs to reveal that they were in their twenties and thirties.
She slapped one of them and demanded, “Who sent you to ambush me?” The man remained tight-lipped.
“You won’t talk, huh? That’s fine. You’ll sing when you reach the police station. Do you think you’re safe just because there’s no surveillance along this road?”
“Miss, Mr. Zachary will be here shortly. We’ve called the cops.”
The bodyguard’s formal address sparked alarm in the man she slapped. He hesitantly asked, “W-Who are you?”
Serenity playfully poked his face with the metal rod and replied, “You stopped my car, wrecked my ride, and attacked me. Yet, you don’t know who I am?”
“Well, you don’t need to be scared. I’m just an ordinary person. You can call me a nobody. I just happen to have a rather protective husband.”
“W-Who?”
“Is your husband?”
