Despite Zachary’s desire for Serenity to stay, she ultimately left the office to return to her shop.
When she arrived, the shop was still bustling with students.
Since Josh had not yet shown up, Serenity and Jasmine immediately got to work. By the time Josh arrived, the crowd was beginning to thin out, allowing Serenity to manage the workload on her own.
Josh always brought flowers for Jasmine whenever he visited.
In return, Jasmine often prepared little gifts for him. The couple looked out for one another and consistently prioritized each other’s well-being.
They were truly a match made in heaven.
“Seren, we’re heading out for our date now,”
Jasmine announced to Serenity with a smile, holding her purse and the bouquet from Josh. Once Serenity acknowledged her, Jasmine left with Josh.
Serenity remained busy until the last group of students departed. She then went into the kitchen to heat up her food and enjoyed her dinner behind the cash register.
“Serenity.”
Mr. Charles from next door approached, holding a bowl and munching on something.
“Are you just now having dinner, Mr. Charles?”
“Yes, it looks like you are too,”
Mr. Charles replied with a smile. “Did Jasmine leave? I saw her with a bouquet of flowers leaving with that handsome boy who often visits your shop. Is he Jasmine’s boyfriend?”
“Yes, he is Mr. Bucham, Jasmine’s boyfriend,”
Serenity confirmed, inviting Mr. Charles to sit down. Instead of taking a seat, Mr. Charles cheerfully replied, “I just stopped by to share something with you.”
Beaming from ear to ear, Mr. Charles leaned in and whispered, “Didn’t I tell you about the bet? I put all my secret stash on the line that you would continue to run your business even though you’ve…”
I have become Mrs. York, and I made a profit. You’re still working here.
“They won’t believe me. They think you’ll just enjoy life as the wife of a rich man and stay out of the public eye now that you’re Mrs. York. Let it be known that I won! They lost! Hahaha! It’s a shame my secret stash isn’t larger; otherwise, I could win even more money.”
Serenity nearly lost her lunch.
With a smile, she congratulated Mr. Charles, “Congrats on winning, Mr. Charles.”
“It’s just a small amount. Hahaha. I should have told my wife so we could pool our money for the bet. We would have won a lot more.”
Serenity admonished him, “You’ll be left with nothing if your wife finds out.”
She was aware that Mrs. Charles was the one in charge at home. Mr. Charles received a monthly allowance of five hundred dollars from his wife, and that was it. Mrs. Charles would sometimes give him extra for cigarettes and alcohol, allowing him to save his entire allowance if he chose to.
Mrs. Charles managed the household finances and even covered expenses for Mr. Charles’ parents. He had nothing to worry about except for his personal allowance of five hundred dollars, which he could easily save half of without issue.
Mr. Charles likely pocketed some money when the stock came in for their shop. In summary, he had a decent stash, and he could have won much more from the bet if he had invested all he had.
Of course, if Mrs. Charles found out, she would confiscate the money.
