Callum replied, “I just bumped into Serenity on my way out after chatting with Zachary. She’s my cousin-in-law, after all. I think I deserve a taste when family brings food over.”
Mr. Chaplin chuckled with delight. “That’s precisely why Mr. Zachary ushered you out.”
Only Callum would dare to be so audacious. After all, he was family with both Zachary and Serenity, and family typically doesn’t fall out over trivial matters.
Callum pursed his lips and said, “What’s the big deal? So he has a wife. It’s as if he thinks none of us can find one.”
“You could find yourself a wife who brings you food every day. All the other single guys like me would be envious.”
Callum nearly choked. His grandmother had chosen a blind wife for him, which meant she wouldn’t be able to cook for him; it would be the other way around.
“Mr. Bucham has been glowing lately, walking with a spring in his step. Love must be something special,” Mr. Chaplin remarked.
Callum leaned closer to Mr. Chaplin and tugged on his tie. “Let’s see if you still say that when you have a girlfriend.”
Mr. Chaplin was still single himself.
“I can’t compare myself to Josh. He’s the luckiest guy around.”
Josh and Ms. Sox faced no challenges in their relationship; both families were eager to hear wedding bells soon.
The Sox family didn’t have the wealth of the Buchams, but they were relatively well-off. Moreover, Jasmine’s aunt was Mrs. Lowe, which enhanced Jasmine’s social standing. Consequently, Josh and Jasmine seemed to occupy the same social class.
The two were perfect for each other, sharing a love for gossip and being nosy.
Callum had to restrain himself from asking Josh to look into Camryn since his grandmother had chosen a blind wife for him. Callum didn’t want Josh meddling in his love life.
It wasn’t as if Callum could…
Josh always had a knack for inserting himself into everyone’s affairs. After pushing his cousin out of the office, Zachary took the flowers from Serenity and softened his normally stern expression into a smile. His face lit up like the afternoon sun.
“What’s the occasion? These flowers are beautiful and smell amazing,” he said, lowering his head to take in their fragrance.
Seeing his joy made Serenity happy. She replied cheerfully, “Oh, it’s just because I thought of giving them to you. Do you like the bouquet?”
Jasmine had a point—men needed to feel loved and appreciated too.
Though the flowers she gave him didn’t cost much, he was thrilled with the gesture.
“I love it! I’d cherish anything you give me, even if it were a weed,” he said.
“You might just get your wish for a weed next,” she teased.
Zachary chuckled, “Sure.”
Serenity then pulled Zachary down to sit on the sofa and said with a grin, “Eat your food while it’s hot. I have to hurry back to the shop. Mr. Bucham is having dinner with Jasmine, and I need to keep an eye on things tonight.”
Upon hearing that Josh had a date with Jasmine, Zachary muttered something under his breath, but Serenity couldn’t quite catch it.
“Did you get the flowers from Camryn’s shop?” she asked.
Setting down the bouquet and food container, Zachary stood up and walked into the private resting room. He soon returned with several beautifully wrapped bags. Handing them to Serenity, he said, “I have gifts for you too, Seren.”
