Chapter 1051
Zachary replied softly, “Nana, didn’t you say I’m a terrible cook?”
“You are, but I’m your nana. No matter how bad your food tastes, I’ll support you to help build your confidence.”
Zachary was left speechless.
Ring, ring, ring…
His phone rang, prompting him to answer in order to escape the playful argument with his nana, as he had never managed to win a debate against her.
“Zachary, I’m at the entrance of your neighborhood, but I can’t get in without an access card. Duncan is here too; he says he has been waiting for half an hour.”
It was Kevin on the line.
Their nana had informed them in the family group chat the previous night that everyone in Wiltspoon was required to return to the manor today.
Serenity’s elders were visiting for the first time, and the family needed to be present to welcome them out of respect for her.
After all, Serenity would eventually be the wife of the head of their family, and her authority needed to be gradually established.
“You arrived quite quickly.”
Zachary added nonchalantly, “I’ll ask Jim to go out and let you in.”
Since it was still early, neither Jim nor Mrs. Lane had gone to All You Can Eat to help out yet.
“Okay.”
Kevin was wise enough not to say much after his big brother commented on his prompt arrival. After ending the call, he rolled down the window and rested his hand on the car door, asking Duncan, who was in the car next to him, “Duncan, Zachary asked me to bring breakfast, so it’s fine for me to come early. Why did you arrive so early as well? You even got here before me.”
“He just praised me for coming really fast, as if he expected me at eight o’clock. But why are you waiting? Tell me, what did you do to offend him?”
Duncan cleared his throat and replied honestly, “My mom…”
I invited my friend’s daughter to stay at my place, and she wants to set me up with her. Initially, she asked me to spend the entire day with Ms. Harmon, but I declined, saying that your brother had invited me to a barbecue today. I came up with that excuse on the spot.
“My mom insisted that I bring Ms. Harmon along. I told her that your brother prefers not to have young women around unless they’re close to him, which successfully prevented Ms. Harmon from joining us. In other words, I used your brother as an excuse, and that’s why I’ve been waiting here for half an hour.”
Kevin laughed and said, “No wonder he suddenly wanted to bring Serenity back to the manor for a barbecue. It turns out that was your idea. Still, he wouldn’t make you wait here; you showed up half an hour early. He’s a married man, and yet you came early in the morning to disturb their sleep…”
Duncan replied, “I didn’t think that far ahead.” He only considered that his mom wouldn’t insist on asking him to accompany Lily if he went to find Zachary.
Kevin burst into laughter. Among his brother’s closest friends, one was mischievous and crafty, while the other was straightforward and honest.
Soon after, Jim appeared at the entrance and brought both of them inside. Ten minutes later, Kevin pressed the doorbell. The tall Duncan felt guilty after Kevin’s remark, so he shrank back behind him.
Serenity answered the door.
“Serenity,” Kevin greeted her as he entered the house. “Zachary asked me to bring breakfast over.”
“Ms. Hunt,” Duncan almost called her by her first name, like Kevin did, but he quickly corrected himself after regaining his composure. “Kevin, Mr. Lewis.”
