Married at First Sight Chapter 1049

Chapter 1049
The next morning, Duncan woke up feeling anxious. After quickly washing up and getting dressed, he rushed out the door without even eating breakfast.
He was afraid his mother would insist on introducing him to Lily and making him take her everywhere.
With a mother who constantly pressed him about marriage, the best strategy was to escape.
To be fair, Duncan understood his mother’s concerns; after all, he was already thirty-six, not twenty-six. His eldest nephew was about to get married, while as the youngest uncle, he still had no girlfriend. It was only natural for his mother to worry.
So, he fled to Brynfield early in the morning and called Zachary from the entrance of the neighborhood, but—
“Go away!” Zachary groaned, still lying in bed with his wife in his arms. Upon receiving the call from his friend, he replied sharply to Duncan.
“Why are you so grumpy? Given our long friendship, what’s the problem with me coming over for breakfast?”
“Dude, what time is it? You’re here way too early! You even skipped breakfast—do you have a tiger at home that wants to eat you?” Zachary retorted.
He hadn’t planned to cook that day and had specifically asked Kevin to bring breakfast from the hotel since Kevin was returning to the manor too.
If Kevin could hear Zachary’s thoughts, he would have pointed out that it was not in fact on the way at all; it just had to be “on the way” because his eldest cousin requested it.
Duncan checked the time and replied, “It’s almost seven. I decided to come for breakfast, so of course, I came early.”
“Zachary, you’re a psychic. There really is a tiger at home—a tigress,”

“In fact, I’m worried that I’ll be consumed until there’s nothing left but bones, so I came to your place to escape. You’re my best shield, you know.”

Zachary was left speechless.

When it came to Duncan, who always spoke the truth, Zachary found himself unable to counter him.

When Serenity woke up and opened her eyes to see her man still lying beside her, but with an inexplicable expression on his face, she asked, “Babe, who is it?”

“A refugee,” Zachary replied as he hung up on Duncan.

A refugee?

Serenity paused for a moment before asking, “Who’s the refugee?”

“Who else could it be but Duncan? Josh has Ms. Sox now, so he no longer needs to stay away from home.”

Understanding dawned on Serenity as she blinked. She laughed and said, “Are the Lewises pressuring him to get married?”

“I think Mrs. Lewis must have invited some wealthy young lady she hopes will become her daughter-in-law to stay at their house, and Duncan doesn’t like it. That’s why he fled here to use me as a shield.”

Serenity sat up and hugged her husband in sympathy, though amusement was evident on her face. “Mr. Lewis is thirty-six this year, isn’t he? You can’t blame his family for being anxious about him. If I had a son that age who was still unmarried, I’d be worried too.”

“What time is it now?” Serenity asked as she picked up her phone to check the time.

“It’s time to get up and make breakfast.”

As she said this, she lifted the covers to get out of bed.

Zachary hugged her and pulled her back, causing them both to fall back onto the bed. “There’s no need to make breakfast today. I’ve asked Kevin to bring a few servings with him when he passes by here before heading to the manor.”

“When did you ask?”

“Who?” she asked.

“While you were asleep,” he replied.

Zachary embraced her warmly. “Let’s lie back down for a bit. It’s okay if you can’t sleep. I’ll be really happy just holding you like this.”

Serenity swatted his large, eager hands away. Liar.

It would be stranger if she took him seriously. A man’s words in bed couldn’t be trusted.
