Chapter 1045
Zachary looked at the two women with a sense of helplessness.
Once Serenity finished laughing, he said, “Honey, please have some soup first.”
Serenity replied with relief, “Fortunately, I wasn’t drinking soup earlier; otherwise, I might have spat it out.”
“Enjoy your meal.”
Grandma May chuckled as she served herself from a dish she enjoyed. After tasting it, she frowned and remarked, “Seren, this wasn’t cooked by you, was it? It tastes a bit different than usual.”
“Does it taste bad?” Zachary inquired.
“If you think it’s bad, I’ll call Kevin right now to pick you up so you can go to the hotel and indulge in all their delicacies since my home-cooked food doesn’t suit your palate.”
“Such a confrontational tone. It must be Zachary’s cooking.”
Grandma May continued eating as if nothing had happened and said to Serenity, “Seren, Zack’s cooking hasn’t improved much. You should let him practice more. He should cook on weekends and prepare all your meals. With more chances to practice, his cooking will get better.”
Zachary’s expression darkened. “Nana, you’re insulting me while eating my food.”
“You never used to cook. If it weren’t for Seren’s influence, I wouldn’t have the opportunity to eat your cooking either. I have to take advantage of it while I can. Although it doesn’t taste five-star, it’s still edible—I won’t starve, at least.”
Zachary was left speechless.
“Nana, we’re going for a barbecue tomorrow.”
Serenity changed the subject to put an end to their bickering.
“You young people can go ahead. I’m just a bag of old bones with no teeth. How could I possibly enjoy barbecue?”
Grandma May didn’t want to feel like a third wheel.
At that moment, she was trying to find a suitable match for Dylan York, but she still hadn’t succeeded.
Is anyone in mind yet?
Sigh… She had so many half-witted grandsons that she even had to worry about their marriages.
“We’re going back to Wildridge Manor for the barbecue,” Zachary announced.
He added, “Liberty is going too.”
Grandma May hummed in acknowledgment and replied, “Liberty is going as well? Then Nana will follow you all back to join in on the fun. You should call your mom and dad later so they can prepare. Liberty is young, but she represents the elders in Seren’s maiden family.”
“Got it.”
Serenity felt deeply moved as she listened to their conversation. Her in-laws did not look down on her family simply because her background did not match Zachary’s. This was a sign of respect and acknowledgment for her.
Since the small gathering the next day would essentially be a meeting of the parents, Grandma May asked Serenity to call Mrs. Stone and invite her and her husband to join them as well.
Duncan had not anticipated that his attempt to use Zachary as a shield would transform into a family meeting between the elders of the Hunts and Yorks.
Liberty had met everyone in the York family before, but she had never been to the actual York family home. Therefore, Grandma May placed great importance on this visit and specifically called Liam and Tania to ensure they made sufficient preparations.
Grandma May even tagged everyone in the family group chat, making it clear that as long as they were in Wiltspoon, they had to return to Wildridge Manor the next day.
After dinner, Grandma May encouraged the young couple to go out for a walk.
Zachary complained, “The wind is too strong outside.”
Grandma May shot him a glare. “Don’t you know how to layer up? No matter how strong the wind is, if you’re heavy enough, it can’t blow you away.”
Zachary was left speechless. Was he heavy enough?
Had he gained weight?
No way. Seren said he had lost weight, and her heart ached at the sight of it.
