It seemed as though the sun set mere moments after it had risen.
The transition from daylight to darkness quietly enveloped everyone.
Serenity woke up bright and early on Saturday morning, while Zachary only got out of bed once she had prepared breakfast.
“Why didn’t you wait for me to get up so we could make breakfast together?”
As he approached Serenity from behind, Zachary wrapped his arms around her. He cherished those mornings when he could see her the moment he opened his eyes.
He found joy in even the most ordinary days.
All the arguments, silent treatments, and misunderstandings had taught Zachary to appreciate everything he had.
“I woke up before the alarm went off, but you were still asleep. I didn’t see the point in waking you just to make breakfast together. It doesn’t matter who cooks.”
Serenity turned in his embrace and lifted her chin to meet his gaze. With love shining in her eyes, she smiled. “Good morning, babe.”
Zachary lowered himself to her eye level and responded gently, “Good morning, honey.”
He leaned in and kissed her softly.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang.
Shoving him away playfully, Serenity said, “It must be my sister.”
Aunt Audrey and Elisa would have called Serenity if they were coming over.
“I’ll get the door,”
Zachary said as he headed toward it.
