Chapter 899
“I was really upset when I first discovered that you had lied to me… But let’s put that aside for now. Just look at yourself; it’s as if your hair is standing on end. I’m still angry and haven’t calmed down yet, yet everyone is defending you and advocating for your case.”
Even her closest friend, who usually sided with her, spoke up for him.
“You have every right to be angry, Seren. This is my fault. I shouldn’t have kept this from you for so long. I couldn’t even confess to you directly and chose another way for you to find out… It was Remy who suggested that!”
If Remy were present, he would say, “You were the one who came to me for advice.”
After a brief silence, Serenity replied, “Ultimately, it’s because you don’t trust me enough.”
“Seren, I admit that I used to distrust you and kept my guard up. I thought you were after my money. Now, I have complete faith in your character.”
Silently, Serenity looked up at him. Torn between hesitation and certainty, she asked, “Zachary, can we sign another contract?”
Before Zachary could respond, she continued, “I was angry when I learned your true identity, but that anger has faded. What I need to consider more is the gap between us. You’re the eldest young master of the York family, born into a billion-dollar estate, while I’m just an ordinary woman without parents. My relatives are all disappointments too. I lack skills and am completely mismatched with you in every way.”
“Serenity!” Zachary interrupted firmly.
He said gravely, “Regardless of your status, I’ve made my decision to not look down on you. As long as I believe you’re a match for me, then you are. Please don’t belittle yourself like that.”
“I’m not putting myself down; I’m just stating the facts.”
Serenity had never been one to belittle herself.
“Seren, I don’t need you to have any skills. It’s enough that I am capable. I can support the family—I’m already supporting you. In the future, I will also be able to raise our children. With my income, I can provide for all of us, even if we have a soccer team’s worth of kids.”
“You don’t need to put pressure on yourself. I don’t need you to support the family.
I’m perfectly fine with maintaining the status quo.”
Zachary had earned more money than he could possibly spend. He could support the entire family on his own, so there was no necessity for Serenity to acquire any skills or contribute financially. All she needed to do was stay by his side and not think about divorce.
“Seren, you may not know this, but everyone in our family receives an allowance from the family trust fund each month. As the eldest missus of the York family, yours amounts to 600,000 every month.”
“That’s just from the family fund. I can also give you pocket money each month. Nana and my mom will definitely give you some too. You don’t have to worry about money
at all.”
As Zachary spoke, he took out his wallet, retrieved a black card, and placed it in front of Serenity.
“In our small home, you’re in charge. Everything you say is law. This is my black card, but it’s yours to keep. Use it however you wish. In short, with me around, you’ll never have to worry about finances.”
Serenity glanced at the black card and then looked back at him.
Did he think she was concerned about money?
“Zachary, if our marriage is to continue, do you want me to be a canary in a cage, or do you want me to walk beside you?”
Zachary stared at her in silence.
