deep contemplation, Serenity turned back to Zachary.
Chapter 82
He lost control. Upon seeing the divorce agreement she had drafted, he erupted in anger.
Yes, he was wrong for lying to her, but she had taken the drastic step of preparing a divorce agreement. His impulsiveness stemmed from her refusal to give him any leeway.
“If you have an affair, use violence against me, or lie to me repeatedly, I’ll leave you,” Serenity had said before.
In that moment, Zachary understood that Serenity was a woman of her word.
“Zachary, we’re both a mess right now, and neither of us is thinking clearly. Please let me leave so we can take a breather. Is there any point in keeping me under house arrest? It will only infuriate me further.”
“You’re overbearing. You’re consistently self-centered and inconsiderate,” she continued.
“Think about it. If our roles were reversed, and I had lied to you for over four months, how would you feel? You deceived me, yet you won’t allow me to express my anger? Am I expected to celebrate your betrayal with confetti?”
Serenity recognized that Zachary’s overbearing nature was inherent to him; trying to change this aspect of him felt like a futile endeavor.
At that moment, his domineering attitude and paranoia were suffocating her.
“Divorce is not an option!”
Zachary said in a low voice, “Seren, I’m not claiming I was right to deceive you, nor am I forbidding you from being angry. You can hit me or scold me, but please, don’t mention divorce again.”
“Let’s not discuss divorce anymore, okay? I can’t bear the thought of losing you.”
Serenity glanced away, avoiding his gaze.
The idea of ending the marriage crossed her mind, fueled by her anger upon discovering he was the heir of the wealthy York family and realizing she had been deceived the entire time.
After a few moments of silence,
After a moment of silence, she looked at him again and said, “Could you lend me your charger? My phone is dead.” Zachary fixed his gaze on her intently. If her phone was out of battery, she wouldn’t be able to reach anyone outside, allowing him to keep her by his side. Yet, he knew that wasn’t a genuine solution to the issue at hand. Serenity maintained her gaze, and the hall remained eerily quiet.
