Chapter 753
“How have you two been getting along since obtaining your marriage license?” Ben inquired.
He had been swept into a whirlwind marriage with Jane, despite the fact that they had known each other for eleven years.
At the very least, they were old acquaintances.
Moreover, Ben had harbored feelings for Jane from the very start. He had suppressed his affections for her, choosing not to express them while she was still underage. Everything changed when Jane faced pressure from her family to marry—she had to hire him to play the role of her boyfriend.
Seizing the opportunity, Ben arranged to formalize their contractual relationship into marriage.
While he and Jane were familiar with each other, their situation was quite different from Zachary’s, who had wed a complete stranger.
Ben was eager for some juicy gossip.
“I made it clear to my nana before proceeding with the marriage that I could marry her, but it was my responsibility to manage the marriage afterward. My nana was not to interfere,” he explained.
“I didn’t reveal my identity to my wife, so I could observe her in her unguarded moments and determine if she was as independent as Nana claimed. Initially… we struggled to adjust to each other’s presence.”
There were times when he completely forgot he had a wife.
She too was not used to being someone’s spouse.
While there had been a few bumps along the way, they managed to overcome them through communication.
“So, you eventually got accustomed to her presence and developed feelings for her after spending time together? It can be daunting to become attached to something or someone; they tend to grow on you.”
It was difficult to lose someone, perhaps even frightening, especially after they had become a part of your life.
Zachary nodded in agreement.
“Our relationship is in a better place now. I admit that I’ve fallen in love with her.”
Well, he had previously stated he would never pursue
Serenity, yet here he was.
“I’m torn about whether I should reveal my true identity to her. Will she be angry and leave me for being honest? Additionally, her cousin was once my admirer, openly declaring her love and pursuing me. My wife even assisted her cousin in winning my affection, unaware of my true identity.”
“Yikes—”
Remy spat out a mouthful of tea.
The two CEOs turned to stare at him.
Remy quickly grabbed a napkin to wipe the table. Clearing his throat, he managed an embarrassed smile and said, “Sorry. I couldn’t help it.”
It was quite amusing that Mrs. York had actually helped her love rival pursue her own husband.
Ben was on the verge of laughter but managed to maintain his composure unlike Remy.
“How close are the cousins?” he asked.
Zachary responded, “Her cousin only recently entered the picture. She’s Elisa, the heiress of the Stones. Mrs. Stone has been searching for her sister, who is also my mother-in-law. I feel like a deer caught in headlights, living out a cringeworthy and cliché story in real life.”
“My wife is close to her cousin. I showed Ms. Stone my wedding band, and she stopped pursuing me once she realized I was married. However, it may take her some time to let go of her feelings for me. Clive met with me after discovering the situation with my wife. He wants me to maintain the status quo because Ms. Stone might struggle to handle the truth.”
“I want to be honest with my wife now, but I worry she may not be able to accept it. Even worse, she might feel guilty and sympathetic toward Ms. Stone, given that her cousin has feelings for me.”
