for now.”
Serenity thought the apartment in Brynfield was more accessible. They could occasionally spend short breaks at a villa. “We have cars, so we can drive here after work. It’s quieter than Brynfield. Many of our neighbors are families with kids. We can hear the frustrated screams of moms upstairs and downstairs as they tutor their children on homework.”
Serenity grinned and replied, “Don’t complain about the noise. You’ll understand how it feels when you have to help your child with homework.”
Zachary confidently stated, “I’m a laid-back guy. I’ll stay calm even when I have to help my child with homework. I won’t yell at them. What’s the point of screaming? Will it help if they don’t understand their homework?”
Serenity looked at him skeptically. “You always get ahead of yourself, but look where you end up. You’re in charge of homework when we have a school-aged child. I’ll handle the house chores, so you can unleash your calm demeanor and stand your ground.”
She turned on her heel and walked away. Zachary quickly caught up to her, wrapping his arm around her shoulder and chuckling, “Let’s go inside and make babies. Otherwise, you won’t be able to see if I can really hold my ground while helping our kid with homework.”
Before they could assist their child with homework, they needed to have one first. “You haven’t lived here for a while. Is the kitchen usable?”
“It’s been a bit, but my mom will hire a few cleaners to tidy up the place in two days and stock the fridge, so I can come back and cook my own meals.”
Serenity had no reason to doubt Zachary’s words. From her perspective, many mothers tended to fuss over their children’s daily lives. Hank was a prime example; her sister took care of his basic needs.
After the marriage, Hank’s mother would occasionally check in on him, as if she doubted Liberty’s ability to take care of him.
“Let’s have dinner first, followed by a stroll,” she suggested.
Zachary replied, “But I want to enjoy you now, Seren.”
Serenity pouted in response. “What’s the hurry? Can’t you show me around so I can get familiar with the area?”
