Married at First Sight Chapter 685

Chapter 685
Elisa overheard the entire conversation between Liberty and Mike. Angrily, she exclaimed, “I can’t believe they’re still harassing you for money.”
“He wants to borrow money from me, claiming that business is struggling and he’s in the red. He needs to invest a million dollars into operations.”
“How shameless! I thought I was the most brazen person in Wiltspoon. People called me shameless for pursuing Mr. York, but compared to your relatives, I’m practically modest.”
Surprisingly, Liberty found herself calming Elisa down. “Don’t get upset over these people, Elisa. Serenity and I will never have a good relationship with them. They can go to hell for all I care.”
The struggles the Hunts were facing now were simply karma catching up with them.
“Come on, let’s enjoy the buffet and drinks. Elisa, your pastry chef makes the best desserts. I’m going to indulge myself today!”
Jasmine shifted the conversation to a different topic.
Elisa laughed at her. “Desserts are fattening… Liberty, I wasn’t referring to you.”
Unfazed, Liberty responded, “Desserts may be fattening, but I’ve eliminated sweets from my diet.”
“I don’t care if desserts are high in calories. I run and train every day, so a little dessert won’t hurt my weight.”
Jasmine, pulling Elisa along, called Liberty and her son to join them inside the house.
Since Liberty had given up sugar, she had to resist all the tasty treats at the party.
Sticking to her diet was the first step toward losing weight.
By the time Josh arrived, Jasmine had eaten her fill and was quite drunk.
Drake acted as the designated driver for his sister. While assisting his inebriated sister, they bumped into Josh, who was surrounded by a crowd.
Josh had intentionally arrived late so that…

All eyes were on him. It never occurred to him that Jasmine was leaving just as he had arrived.

“Mr. Bucham,” he heard, and Drake nodded at Josh.

“What’s going on, Ms. Sox?” he asked.

“My sister is drunk,” she replied.

Josh was at a loss for words; it seemed she couldn’t handle her liquor.

“Mr. Bucham, I’m off to drive my sister home,” Drake said, supporting Jasmine by the arm as he gave Josh another nod and walked past him.

Jasmine wasn’t the only one under the influence; even Elisa, who typically enjoyed a drink or two, was completely intoxicated. The two had somehow ended up discussing Mr. York, leading Elisa to call for a switch from wine to hard liquor. They took turns downing shots until they were both wasted.

Josh wanted to approach Jasmine in front of the crowd, wanting everyone to know about his feelings for her, but that plan quickly fell apart.

Even the best-laid plans can go awry, and that seemed to be Josh’s fate. He had only come to the Stones’ party for Jasmine, and now that she had left, he saw no reason to stay.

The Stones’ party was lively and lasted until midnight.

The next day, Liberty was determined to return to her small home with her son, despite Mrs. Stone’s insistence that she remain.

Before departing from the Stones’ residence, Liberty had a lengthy conversation with Mrs. Stone. Mrs. Stone offered to give Liberty and Serenity two houses, but after consulting with her sister, Liberty declined the generous offer.

Mrs. Stone also wished to give each of her nieces a lump sum of money to improve the sisters’ material lives, but Liberty turned down that kind gesture as well.
