Chapter 639
Zachary examined the drawing.
His gaze intensified.
Serenity had captured his likeness exceptionally well, but she had intentionally placed a tiny heart outside of his body.
Was she implying that he had a small heart? Was she suggesting he was petty and narrow-minded?
There was also water depicted behind his portrait. Was it a lake or a pond? Additionally, what did the circles on the water’s surface represent? There were no fish visible; if there had been, he could have assumed the bubbles were caused by them.
Zachary held the drawing and contemplated while walking.
What was Serenity trying to convey with her artwork?
The portrait was labeled “Zachary,” but what did the water and circles signify?
Jim was waiting for him downstairs.
“Mr. Zachary.”
“Mm.”
Zachary responded with a hum. Noticing Jim’s curiosity about the paper in his hand, he got into the car and explained, “Serenity drew this for me.”
Though Jim could not see the details of the drawing, he assumed it must be lovely since it was created by the missus.
He complimented, “The missus’s artwork must be beautiful.”
“Yes, she captured me like a photograph.”
Zachary leaned back in his seat and focused on the series of circles on the water.
What was Zachary—some sort of ball?
“Water? No… Zachary is a slimeball!”
Jim perked up and glanced at Zachary. “What did you say, sir?”
He thought he heard “Zachary is a slimeball.”
‘Is Mr. Zachary referring to himself as a slimeball?
‘Or are my ears deceiving me?”
“It’s nothing, just drive. I’m in a hurry.”
Zachary sighed deeply as he unraveled the hidden meaning behind Serenity’s drawing. He carefully folded the paper and tucked it away. Although Serenity was…
Calling him names was part of her first drawing for him. It held special significance, and he had to cherish it with all his heart.
Ring, ring, ring…
His phone rang again. It was Josh calling.
“Zachary, are you home or leaving for your business trip again?”
“I’m heading out on the trip.”
“That sucks. You have to work over the weekend.” Josh looked sympathetic.
“Stop gloating,” Zachary replied, feeling irritable. Although he didn’t have to return to the office over the weekend, the issues had not been completely resolved. Additionally, he needed to visit a few injured employees.
This situation required either him or Josh to handle it personally, especially since it involved the lives of his employees. Fortunately, the injured workers had been rescued.
The purpose of this business trip was to clean up the mess, which would involve changing the management of that subsidiary.
“Zachary, have you seen your wife’s drawing?”
“I have.”
“How do you feel about it?”
Zachary replied softly, “It’s incredibly lifelike. It’s clear that she has me deeply etched in her heart. She must love me a lot to draw me so skillfully.”
Josh paused. “Well, you can interpret it that way. What about those circles she drew? Do you know what they signify?”
“Yes, my Serenity is too kind to call me a slimeball to my face, so she used the drawing to express her feelings. She’s protecting my reputation so I don’t feel embarrassed. It’s evident that she cares for me a great deal; she can’t even bear to scold me in person.”
Josh replied, “Zachary, you’re the only one who can twist a drawing intended to scold you into something positive.”
“Aren’t you upset? Did you tear that drawing?”
