Chapter 629
Zachary abandoned his attempt to call Serenity.
A call from Josh couldn’t have come at a better moment.
“Where are they drinking, Josh?”
Zachary went straight to the point as soon as the call connected.
Noticing the urgency in Zachary’s voice, Josh seized the opportunity to tease him. “Feeling desperate? Got ants in your pants? Can’t wait to get back here?”
“Josh!”
This was the worst possible time for jokes.
In his desperation, Zachary wished he could fly back to Wiltspoon.
Josh chuckled. “I couldn’t resist. Only Serenity can make you this anxious.”
Zachary had always maintained a stoic demeanor in the face of challenges.
It was rare to see him restless, something Josh found amusing.
“They’re at Neon Nights. They arrived about half an hour ago. Jasmine and her younger brother are with Serenity.”
Zachary frowned. “How old is Jasmine’s brother?”
Why did Jasmine have so many brothers? Although Shawn was her cousin, they had a sibling-like bond. Shawn only knew Serenity and developed feelings for her through Jasmine, her best friend.
Zachary didn’t want another love rival in the mix.
“He’s about three to four years younger than Jasmine. He’s of legal age. Why do you ask? Should I be concerned? I could win over her brother to accept me as his future brother-in-law.”
“Oh, I see. You’re worried because of Shawn. You’re cautious around Jasmine’s younger male relatives.”
Zachary replied, somewhat irritably, “You can’t understand how I feel since you don’t have any love rivals.”
Josh retorted, “The way you say it…”
He struggled to find the right words.
“Neon Nights? I think the owner of the bar is the head of your
“household.”
The bar had a mix of good and bad patrons, but it was an excellent spot to catch up on the latest news.
“Yeah. It’s one of my brother’s businesses. That’s how I found out so quickly. By now, I guess Serenity must have had at least six drinks. How’s her alcohol tolerance? Can she handle her liquor?”
Zachary replied solemnly, “I’m heading back right now.”
He then ended the call with Josh.
Josh looked at the disconnected phone and smiled to himself, saying, “I finally get to see him squirm.”
Stashing his phone in his pocket, Josh grabbed his car keys and headed out the door. He was going to Neon Nights.
He hoped to run into Jasmine to see if he had the chance to drive her home.
Serenity was still at Neon Nights.
“How many have I had?”
Serenity counted the empty glasses. “Jas, I think I can handle a few more. It’s strange. I usually crash after two bottles of beer, but I don’t feel anything after these few glasses. I want to get wasted. At least then I can sleep until morning.”
“Jas, did you order me non-alcoholic drinks?”
Jasmine responded, “Neon Nights is the biggest and most upscale bar in Wiltspoon. The clientele here belongs to a certain social class; not everyone can afford to come here.”
“How could this place serve fake alcohol? You’re overthinking it. You’ll only feel the effects of this liquor later. You might not feel anything now, but the alcohol will hit you hard soon enough. You’ll be out cold until tomorrow afternoon.”
“Still, you should stop now. Your sister will yell at you when she finds out.”
Although the sisters were close, Liberty wouldn’t hesitate to give Serenity a stern talking-to when she misbehaved.
Jasmine enjoyed watching Liberty confront Serenity.
Lay it down on Serenity. Liberty approached Serenity with a fierceness that rivaled Jasmine’s mom when she was upset with herself. Serenity hesitated before responding, “I’ll stop after a couple more drinks.” Jasmine sighed in response, “Two more drinks, and you’ll be completely out.”
