Chapter 627
Zachary, referred to as the petty guy by Serenity, took a few hours to sleep at the office before waking up.
He opened his eyes to find a thick jacket draped over him. After removing the jacket, he checked the time.
“It’s nine at night,” Zachary exclaimed, unable to believe he had slept for so long.
There were several thermal lunch boxes on his desk, likely dinner brought in by the manager of the subsidiary company. The manager must have noticed him sleeping and didn’t want to wake him. The thick jacket over Zachary was probably from the manager as well.
Straightening his back, Zachary sat in silence for a moment before heading to the bathroom to splash cold water on his face.
He emerged from the bathroom several minutes later.
Returning to his seat, he opened the food containers to find the food was still warm.
He sat behind his desk and began to eat. Zachary pulled out his phone to check his messages. Aside from work-related texts from his senior executives, he also received a few messages from his brothers and cousins.
After reading all the messages, Zachary frowned as he noticed he hadn’t received anything from Serenity.
Mrs. Lane mentioned that she was no longer angry.
Serenity was likely busy making crafts at the shop or chatting with her sister at her sister’s place. She probably forgot about him.
Zachary felt disheartened.
It was then that he noticed an unread text message and tapped on it.
The message was from Mrs. Lane.
She had texted him earlier in the afternoon, but he was too deep in sleep to hear the notification.
“Mr. Zachary, Ms. Hunt is going out for drinks at a bar tonight.”
Though the message was brief, Zachary scowled and quickly set aside his food to call Mrs. Lane.
It took a
Mrs. Lane answered the call. “I made an excuse to take out the trash so I could speak with you, Mr. Zachary,” she explained. “Why are you only responding now? The missus is probably at the bar right now.”
Zachary replied solemnly, “Which bar is she at? I worked all night and couldn’t stay awake this afternoon, so I took a nap. I just saw your message now that I’m awake.”
Mrs. Lane thought to herself, ‘No wonder Mr. Zachary went quiet after I sent the message; he was asleep.’
“Where is Serenity drinking?”
Zachary realized he was the reason Serenity had gone to the bar, and he felt a twinge of regret. Why had he acted so pettishly? He had made a fuss because she hadn’t informed him about Liberty being harassed by her former mother-in-law. Reflecting on it, Zachary acknowledged that he had indeed been petty. Serenity was an independent woman; she couldn’t rely on him for everything.
“I don’t know which bar she’s at. I overheard she was going for drinks with Ms. Sox to vent their emotions,” Mrs. Lane replied.
After a brief silence, Zachary said, “Okay. I understand.”
Once he ended the call with Mrs. Lane, Zachary immediately contacted Josh. As soon as the call connected, he got straight to the point. “Josh, I need you to find out which bar Jasmine and Serenity are at and how long they’ve been there.”
“Jasmine is drinking? Why didn’t she invite me?” Josh asked.
“Alright, alright. I’ll get right on it. I’ll head over there and drive them home once I find out, okay?”
Josh added, “Why did they suddenly decide to go drinking? They could’ve invited me—I have my dad’s treasured wine collection. They didn’t need to go all the way to a bar.”
Zachary hesitated briefly before saying, “I had a fight with Serenity.”
