After breakfast, Zachary transferred fifty thousand to Serenity.
Serenity noticed the transaction and remarked, “I’m not in need of money.”
She already had enough in the household card he had given her.
“I’ll be away on business and won’t know when I’ll return. With the New Year approaching, you’ll need to buy some items to properly say goodbye to the old year. I sent you fifty thousand so you can purchase whatever you need.”
“On the 28th, we’ll head back to my hometown for the New Year celebrations. We have many relatives to visit, so we’ll need to prepare a lot of gifts. Consult Nana about what to give and buy those in advance. If fifty thousand isn’t sufficient, let me know and I’ll send you more.”
Zachary’s reasoning was sound. After hearing his explanation, Serenity reluctantly accepted the fifty thousand.
This was the first time in a long while that he mentioned taking her back to his hometown.
Previously, whenever she met his parents, it was always Zachary who informed his family to come over.
Grandma May’s eyes sparkled at this news, but she said nothing, simply smiling.
As Serenity went to the balcony to water the plants, Grandma May picked up Snowball and sat beside her grandson, whispering, “Where will you stay if you bring Serenity back for the New Year?”
Would they be at the old York residence or a different house altogether?
“Nana, we could still stay at Whitmore Mansion if we tidy it up, right?”
Grandma May beamed. “Yes, we certainly could.”
The residence where Grandma May currently lived was a mountain villa built by her and her husband, known as Wildridge Manor.
Whitmore Mansion, on the other hand, was their ancestral home, quaint and only a ten-minute drive away.

Despite its smaller size, Whitmore had a richer history than Wildridge, and most importantly, Serenity wouldn’t raise any suspicions if she stayed there. “If that’s your choice, then fine,” Zachary replied. Bringing Serenity to Whitmore Mansion for New Year’s wasn’t technically lying, as it truly was one of the York residences. “I’ll make a call to have the place cleaned up for a few guests,” he added. Grandma May was playing along with her grandson, and whether Serenity would be upset later was a problem for him to handle.

Serenity entered from the balcony after finishing up with the plants. “Can we leave now? I’ll take you to the office first,” she asked Zachary. “No need,” he replied. “You can take Nana to pick up Sonny and Mrs. Lane. I’ll drive myself to the office.” Zachary still had numerous arrangements to make, and he preferred to keep his secret from Serenity for now. Serenity didn’t push the matter. Since she didn’t need to see him off, she was glad to have some time to herself. “I’ll wait for you downstairs, Seren,” Grandma May said, being considerate as she took the three pets downstairs, allowing the young couple some privacy.

Zachary stood up and walked over to Serenity, wrapping his arms around her. “I really wish I could take you with me.” After a brief silence, Serenity gently pushed him away. “Even if I went, I wouldn’t be able to help you. I’d just be bored and alone in an unfamiliar city while you’re busy.”

“Since you’re busy, I might as well stay home and wait for your return,” she said. She raised her left hand and added, “Don’t worry, I’ll wear the wedding ring.” “I’ll think of you and make sure to send you a message every night before I go to bed.” She felt more at ease when they didn’t interfere with each other’s lives, just like when they first got married. However, he was becoming increasingly clingy. Although it was just a business trip, he lingered, seemingly wanting to pack her into his suitcase to take her along.
