Hank’s assets were considered joint property with his wife, Liberty. It was Liberty’s right to reclaim the jewelry from Jessica, as Hank had accessed their joint account to make those purchases without her consent.
“He’s cunning. The savings might not even be in his name,” Liberty remarked, left speechless. She understood Hank and men better than her sister did. Men treated their partners like princesses and held them in high regard when they were in love. However, the same men could coldly abandon their partners once their feelings faded.
“Liberty, let Zachary handle this. His friend works in investigations and can gather evidence of Hank’s wealth transfer and misuse of his job for side income. You can present the findings to his boss once the divorce is finalized.”
Hank began to believe that Liberty was no longer good enough for him after he received a promotion and a corresponding salary increase. Liberty had no reason to distrust Hank, but she had been eating more to provide enough breast milk for their son, Sonny, which led to her weight gain. Once Liberty left the Browns, it would be the perfect time for Hank to lose his job as well. “Will this cause trouble for Zachary, Seren?”
“We’re family. My husband and I will always support you. Don’t worry,” Seren replied reassuringly.
Liberty expressed her gratitude, saying, “Zachary has helped us a lot. Seren, please treat him well. Don’t let my failed marriage scare you; there are still many good men in the world.”
Serenity responded, “…Liberty, do I really treat him that poorly? Why do you always act like I’m torturing him?”
While there was no actual torture for Zachary, Serenity was reluctant to fully commit to their relationship. As for Serenity, it wasn’t that Zachary lacked the courage; he simply didn’t take the opportunity when she practically offered herself to him.
He should be able to talk his way out of this. “We can continue this conversation when I get home from work later. I have to go now, Seren. I don’t want to be late.”
