Married at First Sight Chapter 419

Chapter 419
Back in Serenity’s room, she was unpacking for Grandma May, who had even brought her own mug for drinking water.
“Did something happen, Nana? Why did you move out of your place?”
“Sigh. Let’s not go there. My children and grandchildren have been stressing me out. It’s exhausting worrying about them. I’ve decided to leave them alone for a while and stay with you. At least, I’ll get a break from them.”
Serenity set aside Grandma May’s belongings before heading to the bathroom to prepare a bath. “Nana, I’ve drawn a hot bath for you.”
“Okay.” The old lady quickly grabbed a set of pajamas and went into the bathroom. “This is why I wish I had a daughter or granddaughter. Girls are so thoughtful. Look, Zachary hasn’t even shown me any concern since I got here. Seren, you always have my best interests at heart.”
Serenity smiled and replied, “Nana, you told me Zachary was attentive and caring when you first set us up. Your kids and grandkids need to lead their own lives. You can’t baby them forever. You should be enjoying your retirement and stop worrying so much about them.”
In her opinion, Grandma May’s sons and daughters-in-law were quite dutiful.
“I want to, but I can’t. Did I mention that Zack is caring and attentive? Did you notice that in him? Was I right?”
Serenity grinned without responding.
Zachary was indeed caring and attentive to those he cared about.
It wasn’t just Zachary; everyone usually had their loved ones’ best interests at heart.
After her bath, Grandma May climbed into Serenity’s bed.
By the time Serenity emerged from the bathroom, Grandma May was sound asleep.
The only issue was…
The old lady was snoring quite loudly.

Serenity was at a loss for words. She thought she could sleep through the storm if she were drunk; otherwise, the slightest noise would keep her tossing and turning all night. With a resigned sigh, she climbed into bed beside Grandma May.

The bed had two pillows but only one duvet. Not only was Grandma May snoring, but she also monopolized the duvet, rolling away with most of it to one side and leaving Serenity with just a small corner. The sound of Grandma May’s thunderous snoring filled Serenity’s ears, and while she attempted to stuff her ears, it only made her feel uncomfortable.

After struggling for over ten minutes, Serenity gave up and slid off the bed with her pillow. She intended to take the duvet, but she couldn’t pull the layered bundle from under Grandma May. With the nights getting chilly, it was easy to catch a cold without a blanket. Her in-laws might blame Serenity if Nana caught a cold on her first night here, and Serenity knew she wouldn’t be able to live with that.

Resigned to abandoning the duvet, Serenity grabbed a thick coat from her closet and slipped out with her pillow. It was pitch dark outside.

Without turning on any lights, she headed to Mrs. Lane’s room and knocked on the door. “Are you asleep, Mrs. Lane?” she called out. Although Mrs. Lane was awake at that moment, she pretended not to hear Serenity’s pleas. She even pulled the covers over her head when Serenity knocked and called to her, making it seem as though she was sound asleep.

“Mrs. Lane,” Serenity repeated. When she found that she couldn’t rouse Mrs. Lane, she tried turning the doorknob, only to discover that it was locked. Even a spare key wouldn’t help her get in. She was unable to enter Mrs. Lane’s room, and

Grandma May was snoring peacefully in her bedroom. Serenity fell silent for a moment but soon retreated helplessly to the sofa. Eventually, she lay down on the sofa and wrapped herself in her thick coat, waiting for the sandman to sprinkle dust in her eyes.

It seemed that God was working with Grandma May, as it suddenly started to pour. The night was already cold, and the rain only made the temperature inside the house drop further.

Serenity’s thick coat provided warmth only up to her torso, leaving her legs exposed to the chilling air, making it impossible for her to fall asleep.

Sitting up on the sofa, Serenity decided to retrieve a pair of socks from her bedroom before attempting to drift off to dreamland once more.
