“Are you two trying to set me up?”
“He mentioned it to me casually. Based on my husband’s description, the man’s requirements don’t seem too bad. If you’re interested, I can ask him to set up a meeting for you; if not, I’ll help you decline.” Jasmine considered this. It was the first time her best friend and her husband had played matchmaker for her. Moreover, the man worked at York Corporation, which meant he was a professional elite rather than just a trust fund kid.
Meeting him wouldn’t hurt. She didn’t want to dismiss her friends’ good intentions.
“Does he have any strengths and weaknesses?”
“I’ve mentioned his strengths. As for weaknesses, he enjoys drama and the latest gossip. But I think most people are a bit like that. Whenever we see a crowd on the street, we can’t help but be curious and go over to find out what’s happening.”
Serenity paused and added, “He’s also quite talkative and smooth-tongued.”
Elisa teased Jasmine, “You should go meet him, Jasmine. From Serenity’s description, he seems exceptional. After your dramatic display at Mrs. Dawson’s party, I think you’ve missed your chance with wealthy families, so you might as well pursue a business elite instead.”
“I’ve never wanted to marry into a rich family, and it’s not like I could even if I wanted to. Although I’m attractive, I’m not stunning enough for that. It’s better to marry an ordinary person, live an ordinary life, and find happiness.”
Most outsiders didn’t understand what married life was like for those from wealthy families.
Jasmine witnessed the struggles her aunt faced after marrying into wealth. She had no desire to follow in her aunt’s footsteps.
Elisa was born into a different world.
Having grown up with privilege, she understood this better than anyone. “It’s actually wiser to marry someone whose family status is similar to yours. If there’s too great of a disparity, reconciling differences can become challenging. Initially, both parties may still be deeply in love, allowing them to tolerate each other. However, as time passes and passion fades, issues arising from the wealth gap will inevitably surface, ultimately harming the couple. The only exception is if you’re exceptionally remarkable and can stand on your own, so that no one dares to look down on you. My mom often says that if a woman wants to avoid being belittled or bullied after marriage, she must either be strong herself or come from a strong family.”
After a brief pause, she continued, “Some wealthy families prioritize fate over matching statuses and won’t impose their views on their children’s marriages. However, such families are quite rare.”
Among the affluent families in Wiltspoon, the only one that could operate this way was the York family.
Elisa recognized that her own family could not afford this flexibility. Her sister-in-law was bold and daring, but she also hailed from a wealthy family that matched the Stones.
Although Audrey was raised in an orphanage, she possessed enough strength and charm to win over Darrell.
