Zachary held a small bag containing several packets and asked, “What is that?” “Ant repellent. I’ve never used pesticides on the flowers since I bought them, and now there are ants everywhere. There might have been ant eggs in the soil that we overlooked because we weren’t paying enough attention. Now, the ants have hatched.”
She explained as she took out the ant repellent, tore open the bag, and sprinkled some into each pot of flowers. “You need to regularly eliminate ants when growing flowers.”
Although Zachary had never gardened before, he understood the basics. He often saw gardeners at home spraying insecticides and applying ant repellent to ward off pests. Serenity hummed as she continued sprinkling the repellent into the flower pots.
However, she soon ran out of it. She had purchased too little and would need to buy a few more packs tomorrow. Standing up straight and turning around, she noticed Zachary using a prong to collect the clothes he had hung out to dry the day before. Serenity remembered his small actions from yesterday but pretended not to know and asked casually, “Are they dry?”
“Yeah,” Zachary replied, touching the new clothes, which were all dry. However, his expression turned a bit gloomy. He had made an amateur mistake by washing the clothes with water. He hadn’t thought it through and had carelessly thrown them in the washer. By the time he realized his error, it was too late. Still, he accepted his mistake and tried to focus on the positive side.
Now looking at the clothes, Zachary felt regret. He likely wouldn’t be able to wear them again. If Nana found out about his blunder, she would tease him for the entire year.
“What’s wrong?” Serenity asked him. Zachary immediately rolled his eyes.
He balled up the clothes in his hands and said, “Nothing. I’m going back to my room to change.” With that, he turned away, carrying the clothes he could no longer wear.
Once he was in his room, he immediately called Jim. He requested that Jim pick up more sets of clothes from the store where Serenity had bought them and take them to the dry cleaners, so he could wear them for Serenity to see another day.
