Hank thought about the York family, then shifted his focus to his sister-in-law’s circumstances. He felt it was unlikely that Zachary would ever become Mr. York. After speaking, Zachary fell silent. Jim glanced over at him and noticed he was focused on his phone, reading a message from Serenity.

She had seen his national MPV parked downstairs, which he had previously used to mislead her about his financial status, and asked if he was not working that day. Zachary found himself in a dilemma. Should he reply? He had spent the night at his own villa and hadn’t returned to Brynfield. He expected Serenity to inquire about it; even if she didn’t call, he thought she would at least send a message. He waited late into the night for a response, but his phone rang several times—none of which were from her.

His pride held him back from reaching out. Since she seemed indifferent to him, he decided to mirror her behavior.
