Married at First Sight Chapter 169

Chapter 169
It was eleven o’clock at night when Serenity finished closing the shop. She rode her e-bike home.
“Drive safely, Serenity,” the female store owner next door said kindly. Serenity smiled and replied, “I will.” As she watched Serenity’s figure disappear into the distance, the store owner murmured, “She’s such an independent young woman with a difficult past. It’s wonderful that she stood up to her exploitative relatives and refused to give in to their unreasonable demands.”
“Just watch her. Serenity will overcome all the negativity. Her destiny is bright, and she is destined for success. Things are tough before they get easier. Those who have bullied her will regret it.” The store owner then looked at her husband and pursed her lips. “You’re always into that mystical mumbo jumbo. Why don’t you start a fortune-telling business? Maybe you could give me a reading. When will I become rich?”
“Hurry up and move the stuff into the shop so we can close for the night. We need to wash up and get some sleep,” she added. It was unlikely her husband would become a skilled tarot reader just by skimming a few astrology books. Anyone could claim to be a fortune teller if it were that simple.
Serenity arrived home at half past eleven. She opened the door to a dark house. Since Zachary wasn’t home yet, she left the door unlocked.
The large house was only occupied by the two of them, making it feel quite empty as they often spent long hours at work.
Feeling a bit hungry, Serenity went to the kitchen and opened the fridge to see what ingredients she had. Ultimately, she decided to take out butter, milk, and parmesan cheese to prepare a delicious plate of macaroni and cheese.
After hearing a noise at the door, Serenity left the kitchen and watched as Zachary came inside.

“Welcome back, Mr. York,” she said as he entered the house.

Zachary turned to look at her and hummed in response. After locking the door behind him, he approached her and asked, “Did you just get home?”

“Jasmine had to leave early, so I was on duty at the shop tonight. I usually get home around half-past eleven. I’m making mac and cheese for supper. Would you like some?”

Zachary shook his head. “No, thank you.” He wasn’t hungry since food and drinks had been provided during his social engagement that evening.

Since he declined supper, Serenity made herself a plate of mac and cheese. Noticing that Zachary was quietly seated on the sofa without turning on the TV or looking at his phone, she sensed that he was preoccupied. Concerned, she asked, “Is something on your mind, Mr. York?”

“No,” he replied.

Zachary placed his phone on the coffee table before standing up to remove his suit jacket. He then looked at Serenity. Taking the hint, she set down her plate and went to take his jacket. With a smile, she asked, “Should I take off your tie as well?”

She was happy to assist such a handsome man. Zachary’s silence indicated his consent, so Serenity carefully removed his tie and examined it. “This tie looks familiar. Did I buy this for you?”

Zachary murmured quietly to himself, “That took a while.”

He maintained his usual blank expression and nodded.

Serenity was surprised; she had assumed he wouldn’t wear the clothes she had bought him, so it was unexpected for him to don them to work so soon.

“Should I wash the jacket and tie for you?”

“No, just hang them up. I’ll take care of the laundry later.”

The couple had their own washing machines in their rooms and managed their own laundry.

After hanging up the suit jacket,

As instructed, Serenity sat down at the dining table. While enjoying her mac and cheese, she pulled out her phone to scroll through the news.

“Is my maneki-neko ready?” Zachary asked unexpectedly.
