Claire felt a wave of fear wash over her as she caught sight of the menacing look on Jason’s face.

As he spoke, Jason erupted in frustration, “Who would’ve predicted that Charlie, that worthless man, would actually get in my way? Otherwise, Claire would have already been mine! You have no one to blame but yourself for having such a son-in-law.”

Elaine, feeling overwhelmed, sank into a chair and shouted, “I knew Charlie was nothing but trouble! After all those years of living off our family, I never imagined he would lead us into such a dire situation…”

At this point, Claire spoke up angrily, “Mom! You know very well this isn’t Charlie’s fault! Can’t you see what’s really going on?”

Elaine’s face drained of color at Jason’s words.

With that, Jason snatched Claire’s bag, pulled out her cellphone, and dialed Charlie’s number.
