Married at First Sight Chapter 106

Chapter 105
Chris Hunt, John’s father, turned to Mike and stated, “John’s job is the priority. If he loses his job over this…”
Chris’s words trailed off, but the expression on his face clearly indicated that he was directing his frustration towards Mike.
It had been Mike’s suggestion to turn public opinion against Liberty and Serenity.
“Uncle Chris, John has been with his company for a long time. His boss won’t fire him over something so trivial. I’ll make sure to clarify that John isn’t involved in any of this,” Mike reassured.
Since Mike operated a home business, the ongoing online situation didn’t negatively impact his work.

Feeling somewhat relieved, Chris decided to call John and urged him to clarify his innocence before he risked his job.

“These girls are unbelievable,” one of the uncles lamented. “If they didn’t want to pay, that’s one thing. But why did they have to drag us down like this?”
While the Hunts’ tweet concerning their ungrateful granddaughters had gone viral, it didn’t reach as many people as they had hoped. However, Serenity’s response gained substantial traction, prompting an influx of calls to the Hunts from friends and family.
Even numerous strangers reached out, eager to express their opinions about the situation.
The Hunts remained uncertain if Liberty and Serenity were victims of cyberbullying, but they found themselves in the midst of a brewing storm. Public backlash was surfacing both online and in real life. There were individuals who appeared at the hospital to confront them. Had it not been for the hospital’s security personnel intervening and threatening to involve the police, the Hunts might have faced the public’s wrath head-on.
The family could have even faced the embarrassment of having rotten eggs thrown at them.
Finally, one of Serenity’s aunts spoke up, saying, “I was never in favor of this decision. Mom…”

Over a decade ago, Dad made a deal with the girls: they wouldn’t owe us anything. But now, with Mom’s health declining, it feels like everyone is turning against the girls, pressuring them for money.

“It’s not that Mom and Dad don’t have us; we’re all financially stable. As children, it’s our duty to care for Mom in her time of need. Why are we making things harder for Liberty and Serenity? It’s not fair to push them to their limits. Remember what happened three years ago? You know how you treated the girls when their parents passed away. Do you really think you can force them to pay up by spreading false stories online? Consider this: who will be left worse off if they decide to fight back? There are only two of them against our larger group.”

Silence fell over the room.

The family had once been united in pursuit of money, but now that the situation had taken a turn for the worse, blame was being tossed around like a hot potato.

After a bit of time, old Mr. Hunt finally broke the silence, asking, “What’s our next move?” He regretted reaching out to Serenity, never imagining she would record their discussion.

“Let’s try to convince Serenity to delete that tweet. If this escalates, it won’t end well for us,” he suggested.

“Mike, get in touch with her and ask her to take it down. At the very least, we don’t want to burden them with paying for their grandmother’s medical expenses,” old Mr. Hunt thought the solution would be that straightforward.

Mike, feeling defeated, replied, “She blocked my number.”

After a brief pause, he added, “I could send out another tweet in Grandmom and Granddad’s names to apologize to Serenity and Liberty. We might be able to turn this around by showing the girls that our parents acknowledge their mistakes and genuinely regret their past actions. With their health declining, all they really want now is to reconnect with their granddaughters.”

Thus, they took such a drastic step.”

“There’s absolutely no chance I’ll apologize to them. Yes, we did sign that agreement, but that doesn’t change the fact that I’m still their grandmother. Shouldn’t they come see me when I’m ill? Shouldn’t they cover my surgery expenses?” Old Mrs. Hunt stood her ground firmly.

“Just ignore the negative comments. It’s not as if the online users can actually harm us.”
