Her mind was consumed with thoughts of wealth!
To her, the ideal son-in-law had one crucial requirement: he had to be rich and eager to spend money on her. Anyone who didn’t meet this standard was nothing more than worthless trash in her eyes, regardless of their other qualities.
Jason was the perfect candidate for a son-in-law; he was not only affluent but also generous with his spending, especially on his future mother-in-law!
He had already gifted her a Mercedes Benz even before he began dating her daughter. Just imagine what might happen if Claire married him! Would he present her with a grand mansion or perhaps a luxurious yacht?
She was overjoyed, and her imagination soared!
Yet, she understood the importance of maintaining appearances. Grabbing Jason’s arm, she said earnestly, “Jason, I truly appreciate your generosity, but the car is quite expensive. Would you really be okay with me accepting it?”
“Of course I am!” Jason replied. “Auntie, it’s my way of showing gratitude—please accept it!”
Elaine beamed with delight at his earnestness. Placing the key into her handbag, she exclaimed, “Then I graciously accept! Thank you so much, Jason!”
Her unabashed display of greed did not go unnoticed by Jason, who observed her with a cautious eye. He secretly chuckled, realizing that the scheme he and his father devised would come to fruition, thanks to Elaine’s snobbishness!
With this thought in mind, he maintained a polite smile and suggested, “Auntie, why don’t we head inside instead of lingering at the door?”
Elaine nodded enthusiastically. “Absolutely, let’s go in!”
Once inside the restaurant, Jason requested the waiter to escort them to their reserved table, where he ordered an extravagant meal filled with lavish dishes.
During lunch, Jason cleared his throat and adopted a tone of contrition. “Auntie, I want to apologize for bringing a quack to visit Uncle at the hospital the other day. That was my fault, and I’m truly sorry!”
Elaine smiled warmly. “Oh, sweet child, there’s no need to worry! I’ve never blamed you! You were just caught in a tough situation!”
Jason nodded, then looked at Elaine earnestly. “Auntie, to be honest, I really like Claire. I want to marry her, and I hope you’ll support me in this.”
Elaine squealed with excitement, “Of course! I completely support you! Honestly, I’ve already thought of you as my future son-in-law!”
Jason sighed with relief. “Thank you for your support, but I’m concerned that Claire might still be upset with me. If we can’t resolve our misunderstanding, I don’t think we have a future together.”
“Oh, hush! It’s just a minor issue. You two can sort it out! I can even help facilitate the conversation!”
Jason recognized this as the perfect moment to make his move. “Auntie, I actually planned to apologize and confess to Claire personally. I have an idea. My family has a mansion by the river, and I’d like to set up a candlelight dinner tonight. I’ll buy flowers and decorate the place. Could you bring Claire there so I can apologize and share my feelings with her? If she’s open to it, maybe she’ll agree to be with me!”
“Wow! Jason, you’re so thoughtful! I’m impressed!” Elaine exclaimed, her eyes sparkling. “Alright, I’ll call Claire right away!”
Jason grinned slyly while maintaining a serious demeanor. “Auntie, please don’t mention that this was my idea; she might hesitate to come if she knows!”
He continued, “Instead, tell her that a friend of yours has a mansion by the river that needs some renovations and is looking to hire her for the project. She’s so ambitious; I’m sure she’ll jump at the chance when she hears there’s a business opportunity! Then, you could accompany her and help me when I confess!”
Elaine exclaimed, “That sounds like a fantastic plan! Let’s go with that!”
A glimmer of something sinister crossed Jason’s eyes as he thought to himself, ‘Tonight, I’ll win over Claire first. Then, after charming this old vixen, I’ll lure Charlie to the mansion and take care of him!’
